Earlier there was some mention of the fellowships being rather easy to maintain. I was just offered a fellowship, provided that I maintain a "B" average. How difficult is a "B" average to maintain at W&M, and where does a "B" average place you in comparison to class rank?

On a side note, does W&M generally negotiate for larger scholarship offers or reductions in stips?

Median is somewhere between a B and a B+.

I've had passing conversations with peers on this from all levels of the GPA/LSAT spectrum. Mostly what I hear is that what scholarship figure they offer is what you'll get. This also appears to be par for the course for any additional money you might hope to get for being Awesome Rank #X (as in, there is none, and they don't budge from there). I don't understand what you mean by a reduction in stipends.

I'm visiting W&M next week and I'd like to check out some potential housing options while I am there and maybe a good restaurant that is popular with the students. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Stips=stipulations, not stipends.

Housing:

See if you can check out the GradPlex. It's literally right next door to the law school, fairly affordable, and puts you in a social setting with other people in the exact same situation. http://www.wm.edu/offices/residencelife ... /index.php

Private places to check out include New Town (http://www.newtownwilliamsburg.com/residential.php), Monticello (http://www.monticelloatpowhatan.com/), Sterling Manor (--LinkRemoved--), or check with management properties like Berkeley Realty (http://www.williamsburgrentals.com/).

I don't know if the Admissions Office has it yet, but they create a housing bulletin with info on privately owned homes and condos that people are interested in leasing to law students. Might ask them about that to see if there is some deal you'd like to check out.

Food:

I am in love with Williamsburg, but the food here is really not that great. Food for Thought on Richmond Rd. or Carrot Tree down Jamestown Rd. are both local places that are good, but the rest of anything that is good is chain food. (Most of the stuff in Colonial Williamsburg is pretty good, but overpriced for the most part. Aromas is a good cafe with reasonable prices, but mediocre food. Blue Talon, Barrets, and Trellis are all good food, but very expensive.) Nawab on Monticello Rd. is decent Indian food.

Oh. I still don't understand what a "reduction in stipulations" means. As in, would they lower the fact that you need to make a grade that is at/near the curve to something like a B/B-? The mechanics of that sounds inherently atypical and I don't know of it happening here.

Also, Blue Talon is awesome and not necessarily any more expensive than anything else in CW. I think there are a few big-ticket items, but overall it is not wildly overpriced. Plus it's quality food. If you are in town on a Tuesday, they do half-price bottles of wine. If you are in town on a Sunday, their breakfast/brunch is pretty much the best thing to do on a Sunday morning.

Second street is a little pricey, but also high quality.

If you want to see students, find: Paul's, the College Deli, the Green Leafe (either location), Aromas, Chipotle, Plaza Azteca (worst quality and most expensive Mexican in town, but most popular because ???), Buffalo Wild Wings, or Panera. But don't go to all of them, because I'm fairly certain I just listed the only places students go out to eat.

I'm looking to live off campus, are there affordable apartments/townhomes near the campus? I checked out the housing info on WM's website, but was curious if there are other options not listed. I'd like a 1 bedroom within walking distance of the law school if one exists.

Housing around campus is like most campus areas- it is often not very nice and over-priced. That being said, what your definition of over-priced is might vary greatly from mine, so check it out anyway. 1 bedrooms near the school are much harder to find that 2 and 3 bedrooms. You might want to check out the class facebook page and consider a roommate. You'll have to check craigslist, the housing bulletin, and the undergrad off-campus housing website to find them. The Oaks down S. Henry is great, and there are a couple places, including campus court, across the street from the school. Most 1 bedrooms are going to be in driving distance, but you will find them ranging from about $550 or so to $1200+ in the luxury areas.

I don't know if any current students are still checking this, but I wanted to know if W&M uses any type of exam software like Examsoft. I was planning to use Linux for all of my law schooling, so I'm hoping they don't.
