Are there any Chicago natives out there who know the Fullerton/Lincoln Park area and can make recommendations on where to look for housing?

Any help is much appreciated.

Generally:

The el construction hasn't been as bad as many feared, but it is a bit slower and on Cubs games days it is incredibly packed during rush hours.

Wrigley is a popular place to live, if you plan on driving parking is tough to find around there and forget finding a parking spot any time the Cubs are in town.

Lincoln Park is popular with recent college grads and 1Ls, it's cheaper than Streeterville/Gold Coast and has a lot to do at night. Commuting in general will be a bit more of a hassle than living in Streeterville/Gold Coast.

A lot of 1L's live in Streeterville, there are a few main buildings that house a good deal of students, the neighborhood down there is touristy and kind of expensive, but very convenient.

I didn't mean touristy like walking through Times Square touristy (though walking down Michigan can be a pain with all the tourists). I meant that the restaurants are all kind of on the expensive side, and there aren't really many good bars directly in the area, the closest area with a high concentration of bars is Rush street, also known as "the viagra triangle" where older guys and people from the suburbs go on the weekend (in other words you don't want to be hanging out there).

I live in Chicago.

Try McClurg Court, The Windsor, or 420 E. Ohio in that neighborhood.

Lake Shore Plaza is a hole.

It pains me to not be a participant in this post. I wish I was going to NU. Turning them down was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, up to this point in my life. NU is awesome, though. The faculty is amazing, the facilities are luxurious, and the city is endless with opportunties. I hate you all (JK), but I do envy you. Live it up

Motovino - your schedule sounds like my ideal schedule as well. I just realized the orientation week isnt until the 24th - I think an August 15th move in date would be perfect.

I'm planning on an end of June trip to look at some apts. A part of me feels that if I live too close to school I'll be tempted to go home in between classes - but if I'm a little farther away I'll sit my ass in the library as well as save a buck or two.

In any event, I'm looking for that sense of community...

That is one thing I'm concerned with if I get accepted to NU late (such as off a wait list): Finding some place to live nearby the school at the last minute.
