What's all the fuss about this place? I'm thinking it's the first place I should go when I get to Chicago.

For the person who asked about parking, Viagra triangle (Clark & Division) is not a good place to have a car without a parking spot. Neighborhoods in the west side and certain neighborhoods on the north side (read: NOT Lincoln Park/Boystown/Wrigleyville) are much better for street parking.

Got confused because I always thought Original Pancake House was a Portland thing. Turns out, the national chain was founded here (here being Portland, for the ppl who don't know where I am IRL) and the OPH that I think of is the original Original Pancake House. You learn something every day.

UChicago > NU but I always thought the same thing about the OHOP in my hometown. I was really disappointed to learn it was a chain.

All over the country, hearts break as OPH aficionados learn that their favorite breakfast venue is--gasp--a national chain and not actually special.
Except for that smug twat from Portland who learns that her OPH actually is special. :p

Just go to Bongo Room, Ann Sathers, or Yolk instead.

Meh, I feel like yolk is overrated. I liked Hash House a Go Go but I've only been once. And Bongo Room always has an.obscene wait time when I've gone.

I went to Taverna (in Boystown) recently and I gotta say, they've got some legit drink deals. Ditto wi th Lokal before Chicago banned all you can drink specials.

I'm not feeling Hash House. If all you care about is massive portions that's cool but I've been twice and it's just...meh.

Yolk is always good. Lakeview people should go to Orange at Clark/Fullerton. Jam and Honey in Lincoln Park is also legit.

Orange is very legit. Yolk is good but it is very overrated, and by overrated I mean 30-40 people sitting outside the place in Streeterville every weekend morning. Granted it's basically the only game in town, but even so it's not worth the wait. On July 5th I swear there were 80-100 people waiting outside.

Toast on Halsted & Webster is great in that area too.

Orange is great. Hutch in Lincoln park and endgrain in... West on Addison, whatever neighborhood that is, are both excellent too.

parking in lakeview, including in Boystown and Wrigleyville is not really that bad if you dont have to commute to work every day etc. It can be rough trying to find a parking spot after say, six o'clock but even then i only ever end up parking a few blocks away from my apartment. And during the day when the working stiffs have cleared out it's pretty easy to find a spot. If you were going to drive to school every day then it would definitely suck.

I had a surprisingly good brunch at the tapas place Mercat a la Planxa. It was a prefixed menu, but was damn good. And because no one thinks of a tapas place for brunch there's no wait and it's not very busy.

What do you need a car for anyway?

Was going to bring some furniture in my car and just keep the car somewhere. Not planning on using it much, if anything. Myeh, I guess I could just ship things

It would probably be cheaper to ship things than pay monthly parking on a car you'll never use all year.

I'm renting a condo in Bucktown, and it came with a garaged parking spot. I just think having a vehicle is convenient when you're making a huge Costco run or you want to go golfing or anything else that would be really hard via public transit. Sure you don't need it everyday but it's nice when you do.

Is that worth the cost over a zipcar membership to do those things?

It's going depend on the individual circumstance, but for me, yes. If you have no income and a large vehicle payment, maybe not.
