I thought Jim Lupo was leaving for a sec. Thank god he isn't. Love that man.

The thing I don't understand about that email is who the hell I'm supposed to argue with about perspectives electives now? Is that still Lesley or is that going to be someone new?

The next time I'm at school, I really want to pay D-Rod's secretary a visit and teach her how to imbed an image in an email.

Pfff.. JCLC is awesome. At least at football and softball.

But seriously, I got my DOJ summer job because of JCLC -- I worked in criminal antitrust enforcement, and the fact that I was working on a criminal law journal and writing about antitrust law for my comment was a deciding factor in my interview.

I don't know how the work load has changed with new EICs since my day, but it wasn't that bad. Less than law review, more than JTIP/JIHR, heard that depending on the EIC JLSP and JILB can sometimes have a lot of work too. As for jobs, outside of scenarios like mine or where you're interviewing with someone who was on JCLC, it's like all of the other secondary journals. Unless you're on the really awesome trial team, you need to be on a journal or get red flagged, but nothing but law review will actually help you get a job.

FYI class schedule is up- since I know everyone is dying to figure out their bidding situation.

How many points do we get as 2Ls? And remind me, do we have to save points for spring term or do we get new points?

(is forgetful)

I dunno how many points you get, but you gotta save for spring.

Just remember that you don't lose all your bid points if the class only goes for a lower amount. So a good strategy is use all your points in the initial bidding, you'll get most back anyway.

Has anyone done the Entrepreneurship Clinic? Is it all its cracked up to be? From what I understand, I would need to spend a lot of bid points on BA this fall, then Entrepreneurship Law in the spring and then the clinic in 3L year.

I kind of on the fence as to whether I want to do it and deciding not to do it would free up some room in my schedule.

Man, I have absolutely no idea how to choose my classes (not the mechanism of bidding; the curriculum).

There are three classes on my mental list that I want to take, and two of them overlap. :?

Are there lists somewhere of what qualifies as a Perspectives Elective, Professional Skills Elective, 1-Draft Seminar, and 3-Draft Seminar?

And beyond one of each of those, it's basically whatever you want to get to 86 credits, yes?

And do I want to take advantage of my summer credits and take only 12 credits this fall, or have a light semester later?

And are clinics a full year?

I'd suggest sucking it up for 2L and saving the light semesters for 3L.

Yeah, so...is there anything wildly stupid or inappropriate about this schedule? I really have no idea what I'm doing here.

Evidence
Natural Resources
Telecommunications
Copyright
Land Use & Other Urban Issues

Shit, I had to sweat it out to make sure my tax ethics class was 40 and it was on the button. Curved ethics was stupid anyway.

I'm not sure about Land Use and Telecom, but I think that would be 5 exams...

I'd take evidence with Koehler during Spring if you don't mind doing it early on ThursFri so it's uncurved.

Barsa's Natural Resources ends up being pretty generously graded if it's uncurved.

Telecom is supposed to be cool.

A few questions - anyone have thoughts on these professors/classes? Are any of them hardasses? Alternatively, would any of them look too much like a fluff class (moslty concerned about Sexual Orientation & the Law here)

Sexual Orientation & the Law - Taylor & Clark
Legal Ethics - either Foster or Hilliker
Land Use and Other Urban Issues - Shoked
Evidence - Hughes
Advanced Legal Research - Kuehl & Sommer
Advanced Legal Writing - Shapo

Nope, just three exams if the profs do what they have in the past: Ev, NR, and Copyright. Telecom was a paper and Land Use was either response papers for 2 credits or one big paper for 2 or 3 (not sure, but I think the spring section had a choice between). Note that unless he has changed his policies you'll be required to do a two-draft for three credits in Telecom (and can opt to do a three-draft if you want).

It looks like a good schedule to me with some of the best people who teach in the school. If I were going into 2L I'd have basically taken this schedule except swapped in something else doctrinal for Evidence and waited for Koehler. If you're into telecom or IP generally, antitrust is very complementary.

FWIW Shoked is fantastic, not sure how much of a hardass he is in an uncurved class, he said he was going to max the curve for property though.

Cool, thanks guys. I'm not terribly attached to Evidence, I just threw that on there to have something doctrinal.

Some of the CTEs for Antitrust say McGinnis assumes everyone has an economics background. True?

ETA: wtf is "Reforming the law of evidence of Tanzania"??
