I have read a bunch about OCI generally, and even a bit about bid strategy, but how exactly do bids work at NU? Do you have a certain number to scatter across all of the participating firms, and then there's a random lottery to see who gets to interview with what firm?

Is there like a LSN-type thing that exists for OCI bidding, interviews, and callbacks? It would be cool to see scatter plots of this kind of thing. Maybe the class of 2013 should make that. DF knows how computers work, right?

You rank a list of firms and it's lottery by the weight you give firms.

There is no LSN type thing, for probably a good reason firms aren't as predictable as schools are. But we do have access to firm GPA medians for 09-10.

But the 3L's fucked us with a low response rate.

Okay so how can we bribe the class of 2013 to make sure response rates are higher? Also: how can we punish the evil, selfish class of 2012? You've turned me against them already and they haven't even hazed me yet.

Not sure how it was for class of '12, but some of us weren't going to spend hours arguing with Career Services's inoperable spreadsheet.

Class of '11 had a good response rate. Class of '12 was the one that fucked us.

So, add 0.2 to all median call back info? Sweet.

I suggested SBA develop a 1L-2L buddy system of annoying emails.

SPFIF doesn't like judges ever since a judge ruled against one of their members in a motion.

Because you get class credit.

BUT any hours you work over 20 each week count toward your service hours.

Whoa, that sounds like a super annoying problem that is also actually somewhat fixable. I assume career services has gotten this feedback, right? I think I speak for the class of 2014 when I say that we will happily volunteer our time to help make the best damn spreadsheet the 2Ls have ever seen if it bumps up the response rate.

Annoying emails and also the 2L's alcoholic beverage of choice. Carrot and stick. They say you catch more flies with expensive scotch than with vinegar.

I'll have a drink with you whenever, mand. I won't be getting wasted, so timing isn't all that big of a deal to me.

This may have already been asked, but for someone new to Chicago, is it worth bringing a car?

I live in a city now and only use public transit and enjoy not having to drive.

Why are there so many cops walking the streets in Chicago?

(Serious question because I have never seen more than handful of cops patrol on foot in my entire life, they're all in cars/motorcycles/bicycles.)

Are you in streeterville? There were a few flash mob type muggings and robberies earlier in the summer and Rahm made it clear that he wouldn't be having that.

Yeah. It's just an odd thing to me to have cops patrolling the streets on foot. I'm assuming on foot is a normal thing in Chicago and that there were just more than normal because of the muggings?

Cops are usually in cars in other parts of the city, but for some reason downtown they are more likely to be on foot, bike, horse or those weird police Segways.

Sounds right, I mean it makes sense with downtown traffic to have them on foot or bike and not stuck in a jam.
