What are you doing this summer? How easy has it been for you and other rising 2Ls to find paid internships?Micdiddy wrote:Rising 2L taking questions.

What's the 1L schedule like for someone that's finishing? I'm talking hours, lunch time, locker time. Monday through Friday? How are certain classes for those who came with in with a legal background vs those who did not? Are study groups common? I ask since it's an older crowd with married couples, etc.

It's a lot like undergrad. You will have about 12-15 hours of class a week scheduled at various times between ~9 and ~6 each day. Eat lunch whenever you want, you're an adult (there's never class scheduled between 12 and 130). I'm not sure what locker time is. A legal background isn't going to help you with 1L classes. Study groups aren't common but if you want one you can likely find or make one.luuma wrote:What's the 1L schedule like for someone that's finishing? I'm talking hours, lunch time, locker time. Study groups were common in my section, but we were a bunch of nerds. Point is, you'll make one if you want one.bk1 wrote:It's a lot like undergrad. By locker time, do you mean time between classes? Most of your classes won't be back to back if I remember right, but if they are there's about 10 minutes in between.
Seriously though, your time is your own. Other than class, do other stuff whenever. It's not nearly as regimented as your question seems to imply.

Working with a state judge and research. It's very difficult to find paid anything (except maybe $10/hr RA) and far more difficult to find good pay. But that's not what 1L summer is for.kenwash wrote:What are you doing this summer? Yes. You are too!bananasplit19 wrote:oh you fancy, huhMicdiddy wrote:Rising 2L taking questions.
I'd echo what the above posters said with the caveat that from my perspective study groups were very very common (maybe it changes year to year). The only thing a legal background might help a little for is CLR, but I don't have a legal background so that's just speculation.luuma wrote:What's the 1L schedule like for someone that's finishing? Sorry if this has been asked somewhere in here already, I only looked through the last few pages,
Would only having 1 year of work experience going into Northwestern make you stand out in a bad way come OCI time?

I haven't gone through OCI so take this with a grain of salt but I don't really think so. If you also have poor grades then it certainly won't help, but the main thing is grades, doing something 1L summer to talk about, grades, good attitude in interviews, grades etc. Keep in mind plenty of people here are still K-JD.john7234797 wrote:Sorry if this has been asked somewhere in here already, I only looked through the last few pages,

Been trying to figure out if we have any kind of Microsoft Office (for macs) discount at NU. Does that exist? Where the hell do I find it on this horribly organized website?
