I didn't have it set up to filter. I purposely don't filter on my laptop, tablet, or in webmail. The Gmail Android app must have started doing it without me knowing after an update at some point.LRGhost wrote:It's... almost like the system works!rinkrat19 wrote:Jesus, I just realized that my phone was filtering out the spam-tagged emails...

I used to work at a creatively-inclined company with 500+ employees and a global listserv. I think I'd receive close to 100 or so listserv e-mails a day with memes and trolls and etc mixed in and I never once heard someone complain about it.
Solution? We gotta start trolling the listserv way more often until it stops becoming a talking point.

Anyone know what they do if you miss the call for journal membership? I have a missed call from a Chicago area code (and I am not from Chicago) so its suspicious, but they didn't leave a message or anything.

1) have you tried calling back the #? "Hi my name is X, I received a missed call from this # x hours ago and wanted to know..."Betharl wrote:Anyone know what they do if you miss the call for journal membership? 2) didn't we fill out the "if you can't contact me here, contact this person who can decide for me" form?

They call the next alternate.Betharl wrote:Anyone know what they do if you miss the call for journal membership? I have a missed call from a Chicago area code (and I am not from Chicago) so its suspicious, but they didn't leave a message or anything.

Yeah... they didn't call the alternate. Don't really want to call them back in case it's some type of weird phising attempt or something. Really thought it was nothing, I was just hopeful as I'd like to get journal info before I mass mail.

Depends on the journal. Alt spots are first come first serve.Betharl wrote:Yeah... they didn't call the alternate. My guess is whoever is making the calls for Journal X will call through all their "accept" applicants, then circle around and try re-calling those who didn't pick up. Then if that doesn't work, they'll shoot an e-mail, then the alternate contact.Betharl wrote:Anyone know what they do if you miss the call for journal membership? Then again, if only there were some sort of voice recording mechanism through which one could leave a audio message that the absent recipient could retrieve at their convenience...

Yeah, that's what I meant, my alternate contact didn't get a call. I guess my question was if they would leave a voice mail or email or something or if they would immedietely call your alternate. Still kind of curious as there's a good chance I will miss the call.Desert Fox wrote:wait they really had you fill out an alternate contact

What kind of a phishing scheme are you afraid of? Like seriously, you think that if you call back, you will get fooled by someone asking for your cc number??

Hah, fair enough. I called back and it wasn't a journal. FWIW though, I've heard of schemes where you call back and it's some number in Cambodia or somewhere and then you get charged something outrageous for the call (although I guess that's not a "phising" scheme). But I guess I knew it was a Chicago area code, so yeah.... I'm just stupid. Whatever, I usually just ignore missed calls unless they leave a message.

I missed my phone call last year and they just left a message. I doubt they do anything different this year.bananasplit19 wrote:My guess is whoever is making the calls for Journal X will call through all their "accept" applicants, then circle around and try re-calling those who didn't pick up. Yeah--if you miss the call and don't respond within the hour they normally just move to the next on the list….no time to deal with people who can't answer their calls

they definitely call and if you don't pick up they leave a voicemail and you have 24 hours from the time of the voicemail to call back and accept/reject. i didn't call back for about 4 hours and it wasn't an issue at all.

how strictly is the 24 hrs enforced? if hypothetically you called back 5 minutes after 24 hrs are there any journals where this would be a problem?

I think you'd probably be fine with JILB or JTIP. JCLC would be iffy. And LOL just LOL at somebody pulling this shit getting a spot on Law Review.Cobretti wrote:how strictly is the 24 hrs enforced? if hypothetically you called back 5 minutes after 24 hrs are there any journals where this would be a problem?

Re: Northwestern 1L/2L/3L/Grads Taking Questions and Challenges
I went many years in my life wondering I am over-thinking/over-worrying/overly-neurotic, but where are the others who share these similar characteristics? Am I just crazy? Ah! Yes! They are all in law school. It was a beautiful realization.
I laughed at a lot of the posts about the 5 minutes after 24 hrs etc., but I'm like 90% sure I would start wondering the same thing if I missed the call and then do an anon post on TLS--refresh--refresh--refresh--until someone said it'll be cool.
Someone should write a book about the law student's psyche -- maybe our school therapist or whatever his name is?
