Will we get an official copy of the textbooks emailed to us?...or is what is on the COOP valid.. I ask this because after putting in my section number, one of the prof listed isn't teaching my section. Also is the administrative law textbook for Legislation and Regulation?

Who do you have for Leg Reg? Some profs definitely assigned an Admin textbook.

The book is Legislation and Regulation by Manning & Stephenson.

I got my section assignment, but the email didn't mention what courses I'd have first semester or who my professors will be except for one of them (the faculty leader for the section who sent out the email).
How do I find out who my professors are and what courses I have first semester?

One way I suppose would be to go to the HLS Coop website and look at what classes/textbooks are assigned for your section (located under "First Year"). Alternatively, you can post here, and we can probably tell you.

I know for a fact that this is the textbook for Manning's class, but I don't know about other classes. I think (but am not positive) that Vermeule used Administrative Law (Gellhorn/Byse), and that Tushnet used Rise and Fall of the Regulatory State. More broadly, you are correct that different sections/professors use different casebooks.

(Responding to ph14) I'm in Section 7, and the Coop website only has two Contracts books up for me right now.

All the email said is that I'm in Section 7, Todd Rakoff is the faculty leader of the Section, and he'll also be my Contracts professor. It didn't say anything about other professors, unfortunately. Is there any way to find out who they are?

look at my post, 1 page back, bottom of page..im in your section

you can find our your schdule by using the course catalog..this is what everybody in the admitted students hls facebook group did

Thoughts on the following profs for Section 6?

Civil Procedure- Jack Goldsmith
Contracts- Adam Levitin (visiting from Georgetown)
Torts- Jon Hanson
Legislation and Regulation- Susan Davies

Also, which of the TLS guides are worth reading for those of us about to start? Can you link to their location on TLS?

Another FYI: the Suk who is teaching Civ Pro is not Jeannie Suk (permanent HLS faculty, cold, usually teaches crim) but rather Julie Suk, who is visiting from Cardozo.

I'll try to PM later with thoughts, but two things immediately come to mind:

1. Thank your lucky stars, because you've got great teachers.
2. You've got Civ Pro and Crim in the same semester. They did that only to Section 7 last year. You might die. Both are really intense, doctrine-heavy classes. But Crim and Torts side-by-side is nice, and Leg Reg before Contracts is nice, too.

Do you think Asians are at a disadvantage in becoming partner at Biglaw because of, well, their race?
(I'm not racist. I'm Asian. So it's okay for me to ask this:))

Biglaw partners are mostly White, and most of those White people are Jewish, which is a very tight community.

How hard do you think it is for an Asian dude to make himself some room in that circle?

I wanted to ask this question to people at HLS. (Because I think there are a lot of Asians at this school)

what's up with the different evidence courses varying from 2-4 credit hours? they all seem to have pretty much identical course descriptions. any reason to pick one over the others?

I asked this to people, couldn't really get a good answer. I'd go for 4 credits though, which I will assume is the full class.
