I can't personally vouch [yet] but my salon in NYC recommended Salon Marc Harris. They have 2 locations in Boston (4 Avery St, 115 Newbury St) but not in Cambridge. All I've got! Hope that helps.jasper09 wrote:Not to derail the journal conversation, but serious question for the HLS ladies: where do you go to get your hair cut? I've had terrible luck with places like Hair Cuttery because my hair is utterly unruly so I'd prefer someplace where they know how to handle it. TYIA

Tried connecting my harvard.edu email to Microsoft Outlook, but it's saying there's an encryption problem. Do any of you all know if we can use a 3rd party mail service like this? I thought that only the clinical email was restricted to web browser viewing.

I was able to set up forwarding to my usual gmail account, so you could always try that, then open that gmail account in Outlook.sjgonzalez3 wrote:Tried connecting my harvard.edu email to Microsoft Outlook, but it's saying there's an encryption problem. How intense is the first week of school in general? Would it be a soft intro?

Three years ago, the first week was very mild. It ramped up each week for at least the first four or five weeks (well, really until the first LRW assignment was due).

In general, you've probably felt very bright your entire life, regardless of the circumstances. Prepare for that to temporarily change.

North Hall - hows the refrigerator/freezer situation in the kitchens? I'm bringing a mini fridge without a separate freezer compartment and was wondering if there tends to be room in the kitchen to store frozen meals

Re: Harvard Student(s) Answering Your Questions
Yeah this wasn't my experience. If it was overwhelming it was more sensory overload than anything. That said I read for the first 3-5 classes in each class before orientation. Certainly not required, but did make things less stressful for me. I also read a bit of Glannon for civ pro. minimum contacts, etc. and found that a bit helpful.Single-Malt-Liquor wrote:My civ pro professor tried everything he could to recreate The Paper Chase.tomato123 wrote:How intense is the first week of school in general? Re: Harvard Student(s) Answering Your Questions
The most intense part for me was learning how to read cases. I've always been an extremely fast reader and it took me something like 50 minutes to get through my first 10 pages of my first civ pro reading (although to be fair, that did include a case from the 1800s and the dense language that comes with it).tomato123 wrote:How intense is the first week of school in general? I don't think I ever got up to the speed I could read assignments in undergrad (humanities major), but by the end of week 1, it was significantly easier and it only got easier throughout the year. You figure out pretty quickly what elements are important and what professors are going to emphasize.
I was also pretty nervous about cold calling. You are probably going to say something stupid at some point. But basically every person in your section is going to, and as long as you make a genuine effort, nobody is going to remember.

Credited.acrossthelake wrote:As a general tip, the parts of the case that aren't relevant to the course you're taking are fair game for cold-calling, but won't matter for the exam. So if you're reading about civil procedure in your contracts class, don't sweat over that part, just focus on the parts about contracts. And nobody really cares about how well you do on cold-calling and the ones who do are judgmental pricks anyway.

Cool stuff. You only really choose one professor for your whole first year, and it's very likely you'll get your second or third anyway. Find the one you want to work with.az21833 wrote:Are people typically RAs for past professors? Or can we just reach out to professors doing cool stuff haha
