No paper options this year. A shame, considering the median in those classes is 178. I strongly suggest everyone take Epstein for the lulz.

Several months later, this was a fantastic recommendation.

Well hellooooooo

That two seconds was 100% worth going to a makeup class at 3 on a Friday afternoon.

One of your crim pro classmates complained to the administration about epstein. Taking bets about about who it is.

I still think there is a 90% chance that we know who it is, though.

We aren't in Chinatown, so I have no idea.

The short answers are: 1) It varies. It's possible but far from a given. 2) As a 1L I can't really speak to this yet, but it's supposedly a bit easier on the ties front. 3) I believe so.

I'd be glad to share much more via PM if you like.

No to the furnished apartments, but kappycaft1 might be able to answer your question about the lease.

This 2L (taking Crim Pro) is out of the loop. Say more?

It seems like things have changed since I signed my lease here; they had just opened when I moved in, and so the length of time you could hold an apartment was different (90 instead of 60 days) because they were just trying to fill the place up. When I signed my lease, I had the option of 9~15-month leases, so I went with the 15-month one. I don't know if it's changed since - just give the office a call and ask them.

Also, I know Regents had fully-furnished apartments, but I am not sure why you would want to go that route as they're normally about twice as expensive as a normal apartment. Unless you really just don't want to buy furniture or have to worry about what to do with your place during the summer, I wouldn't recommend going the furnished route.

It's surprisingly cheap to find furniture too, if you're willing to drive a few miles out of the city. I got a bedroom set (including my memory foam mattress), living room set, and a kitchen set for under 3k. I'm sure if you're willing to buy gently used or defected items, then you can furnish your apartment for even cheaper.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, marketplace.uchicago.edu is a great place to find used furniture, especially if you don't have access to a car and need to buy things in Hyde Park.

Can someone from a warm weather climate weigh in on the weather? The only thing keeping me from committing is the weather. It looks unimaginably horrendous.

It's pretty awful, honestly. It gets very cold, stays cold for nearly the entire year. The only time you can expect consistently not cold weather is from late June - mid September. Snow is terrible and wet and you will slip on the icy sidewalks and fall on your butt at least once while you're here.

That said, you learn to deal with it, and it's not much worse than most of its peer schools (S,B,V,D do have better weather). Choose a law school based on employment prospects / cost and you'll adapt to everything else.

I'm from one of the hottest places in the country and winter really sucked. Day to day it's really not a big deal. I just got a huge coat and wore gloves, scarves and stuff. Jeans were usually fine; I never wore long underwear unless I was going to be outside for more than a half hour, which was very rare.

But long term, winter blows goats. Winter is fucking long and it sucks not being warmed by the sun or being able to casually walk outside in shorts/sandals. There were a few weeks where it was never above freezing and that shit is annoying. So if I can survive winter anyone can survive. But it's not fun and spring is the greatest thing to ever happen to me.

All that being said nut up and go where you think is best for your career. People don't pick Chicago because they like the cold.

For what it's worth, this winter was way worse than the last two winters. And arguably worse than 3 years ago. This may be affecting 1L opinions. But also I've never lived anywhere warm...

Thanks for all the input. Weirdly, I feel better after reading some of these responses. I guess what has bothered me is the fact I'm just making a wild guess on how well I'll respond to the weather since I've never been in anything close to it before. I understand no one likes the worst days of winter, but it sounds like it's doable.

This is relevant to my interests as well. Particularly relatively cheap buildings.

South loop is not cheap, especially not compared to HP. You are going to pay at least $200 more for a studio/1Br and $400-$500 more for 2 Brs.

There are multiple people who live in the Amli building at 900 S Clark, several live in Park Michigan at 1212 S Michigan and I believe a few live in the building at 1130 S Michigan. If you want to save on rent you will want to look south of like 16th or in the printers row buildings on dearborn, federal, etc near Harrison. The good thing about south loop/downtown in general is that you are close to like 50 bus lines and all of the trains so you don't have to live as close to people as you will want to in Hyde Park. Also you will want to be close to the 2 if you are bussing and you will want to have indoor parking if you are driving.

So I've decided to get a jump on learning legal citation before classes start (this is a joke, I'm not actually doing this). Does everyone still learn Bluebook citation in Legal Writing? Only the journals use the Maroonbook, right?

I have no real need to know this, just general curiosity.
