I just ordered three yesterday, probably jumped the gun but oh well. Torts and Civ Pro I picked up used online after digging through a bunch of listings looking for the least highlighting. Crim is a brand new edition and the old one is like 6 years old so at least imo I figure that's too much time to have passed for the previous edition to be adequate.

Holding out for LRW and Stone, they are cheap compared to those though :P

^Yeah, I think the only book for Stone's Elements class is the one he wrote--Perilous Times. $14 on Amazon.

Looking at used copies for crim (old edition), and just realizing that 2007 was six years ago... where did time go?

Roughly 25% of Stone's Elements class is in this article. Learn to think like him and you'll do well.

Just spoke with the bursar. No refunds until first day of classes, which is directly not what the SLA told me.

I need some people to tell me that different departments actually communicate.

So just realized we 2Ls have like 18 weeks of summer next year; what do people usually do between job ending and class starting?

If it's just for a day or two, try hotel tonight. They do daily hotel deals.

Priceline / hotwire. You can usually get hotels around the airports for around $50 a night.

Is staying at the airport inconvenient for getting to the campus area? Are there any cheap hotels near campus?

Not very convenient, no, but it's cheap. South loop is your best bet for convenience, but hotels there are pricey.

There's a shitty hotel that I can see from my window in Regents (Ramada Inn I think?) that I imagine is cheap and close. Best bet is probably hotwire in the South Loop though and then take a bus down here.

Not annoying at all. Nobody gets worked up about 1L LSA elections, so you'll probably just see some stuff on facebook.

Looking at flights home over Christmas since flights are cheap atm.
Do most people clear out as soon as break starts and come back right before classes or do people tend to hang around either at the start or end of winter break?

Most people clear out asap (some 2Ls and 3Ls will probably start an early Christmas break)

As a 3L, an I allowed to ask a question? :D Any UChi tax folks have thoughts on a non-math person taking intro to income tax and taxation of corporations at the same time? I liked business associations a lot, fwiw. Just feel like I should get some tax classes in before I graduate, and if I don't take both next quarter I can't take the tax class offered in spring.

Thanks!

What do you mean by "non-math"? Do you mean you just didn't major in math/engineering, or do you mean you got a C- in high school algebra and never looked back?

I can't speak to tax, but I've taken classes that are more "mathy" than tax. If you don't have a clue how to do algebra and use a spreadsheet, I can see them being difficult, but my highest math was AP calculus and I find the math quite doable.

Intro to Income Tax was basic multiplication and addition/subtraction. Shouldn't be a problem.

There's not that much math in tax, and IMO, there's more math in intro than corporate. I also didn't think intro was strictly necessary for corporate. Weisbach is kind of in his own little world and will find ways to confuse you regardless. I'm biased as a tax geek, but I thought I got a ton out of that class.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
