I can't make it for asw in march. since I'm visiting nyc in late january, I think I'm going to email the admissions office and see if there's any possibility I can view some UAH housing or (maybe) drop in on a class. suggestions on how to go about it or anything particular to see, if any, would be awesome.

My boyfriend (another CLS 2L) and I live together in UAH housing - an unfurnished 2-bedroom on 111th St. We'd be happy to let people up to see our apartment. Just PM me and we can set something up.

EDIT: we also have some pics of the apartment which I'd be happy to share.

that would be AMAZING, thanks! pm'd!

I also have gotten exactly zero grades. Maybe the professors are waiting until school starts to submit grades so that we can instantly glean our class standing from the looks of elation and dejection on other students' faces (or maybe they think it's less likely that we'll drop out of law school once enmeshed in a new semester).

Some professors have turned in grades, just none of mine :(

CLS 2L here. Don't expect your grades until mid-january or even the end of January for some. Shaw will turn in his grades right at the deadline (Feb 2nd last year). Long is pretty quick (about two weeks). Other professors vary.

Long had twice as many students this year, unfortunately. I really feel bad for her!!! My K's professors, however, had a pretty low word limit and two small sections. I feel like he should have been done by now.

Just out of curiosity, are most of the exams take home or in-class?

For the first semester, a few profs had take-homes for civpro or contracts, but I THINK everybody had either zero or one take-home exam; the majority of students had one.

Any scary professors to look out for? Any legendary ones?

(Sorry if it's been asked before)

Early February at the latest. I'm not joking.

CLS wrote:Except in the spring term for graduating students, faculty members have four weeks (from date of exam or last return date for take-home exams/papers) to submit grades to Registration Services for classes with fewer than 100 students. Faculty members have six weeks to submit grades for classes with 100 or more students.

Seminar grades are due on the 19th, I think.

This is not to say that all professors will respect these deadlines...

Well the exam in my small section (under 40 students) was over four weeks ago. Hopefully, that grade will come in soon!

However, that professor has tenure so I am not sure he's all that worried about the deadline.

hello!
Now that I am in to CLS, I am a little concerned about actually doing well in law school. I figure that an important part about doing well as a 1L is just learning how to be a good law school student and figuring out the system. So..I am wondering, are there friendly 2Ls and 3Ls around who will answer questions? Or is there any other way to gain insight into how to do well specifically at CLS so I don't have to go blind into my 1st semester?
K I know it's early, but some encouraging words might help allieviate my fears :)

Hey Robin,
People will tell you there's no summer prep you can do. These people will be lying to you. Read some books about your first semester courses. Go into any university bookstore and there will be plenty of companion books for 1L courses with the law textbooks.

That's really funny you called her Robin instead of annie since her avatar is of Robin from How I Met Your Mother.

EDIT: unless you meant to do that... in which case it's not quite as funny

let's just pretend it wasn't on purpose :)

Ok thank you! Does this mean I will know what my 1st semester courses are in advance or are they the same every year?
and also, I want to be able to review exams early so I can figure out how to be a good test taker. Are past tests easy to get? Do the professors give them out?

always contracts, torts, civil procedure.
read this:
http://www.amazon.com/Forms-Functions-T ... 475&sr=8-1

profs post exams towards the end of the semester and they're useless earlier. reading these sort of overview books early on is much more useful

Ok great. Yes I meant reviewing exams early on in the semester, not really before I start because, you're right, that would be totally useless. I've just read a lot of posts where 1Ls say "I wish I started doing practice tests earlier" and I guess I was just wondering if those were easy to get. But if professors have them, then I guess so!
Does it make me a nerd that I'm really excited to read law school books before school even starts? Yes...yes it does.
Thanks for your help again!
