How bout you mind your own business!? 1L's who aren't on journal has no right to ask those kinds of questions.

Lol. This post by itself explains so much.

I can't speak for all graders and definitely not all journals but a good third of the entries I graded were on the wrong issue. If it was written well, interesting, creative, or otherwise impressive in some way I made note of that and those submissions were reviewed again by additional eyes. After talking with some peers it really does seem like a lot of people were confused with the issue but that being said, it probably won't end up mattering a whole lot.

Also sorry to you 2Ls but law review does suck that's just a fact. Like sublime said by all means do it if you get it, but it sucks. Even people on law review know that. (Especially people on law review.)

I'm getting together my resume, CL, etc. so I can direct send my applications by the end of the week. I know there are certain threads on here that recommend that we look up alumni to send them a copy of application. Has anyone at WashU found this to be effective? (As in, did it make a difference addressing the email to an alumni rather than just the hiring coordinator?)
If so, did you contact the alumni before sending them a copy of your application just to chat or something? (Should we be direct sending only to alumni we've contacted beforehand?)

Also, I know this sounds gunner-ish, but I need to kill it next semester and I wanted to review some stuff over the summer. Did anyone take commercial law w/ keating and know what textbook/edition he used? I've heard scary things about that class, so I don't want it to mess up my gpa

thanks in advance! sorry about the long post lol

You're right. He can insult every rising 3L..but because he posts a lot on an internet forum for Law School gunners he's infallible

Alright, if you continue to shit up this thread, you will be banned.

ETA: certainly not infallible and you are welcome to criticize my opinions substantively. I obviously like many rising 3L's, although collectively, it has been one thing after another.

If you want to ban me go ahead. But I had to make an account to stick up for the rising 3L's. I've seen you and others on many occasions bash our entire class. Not all rising 3L's are unethical. If you really have rising 3L friends, how do you look them in the face after all you have said about them. I'm sorry if I was rude. But you have painted every rising 3L's face with the same, broad brush. I'm tired of just passively sitting by and watching my class be defamed on the internet for all to see.

To succeed in Commercial Law with Keating it's best to read the textbook and any supplements before the semester begins, then review the readings during the semester as the class moves. I'm not sure what edition he's using this fall.

See, this post is fine.

I am extremely close with one 3L and am friends with others, including a few who have posted in this thread today. If you look at my post, I believe that everything I said about your class was in the collective. For instance "collectively fuck shit up." Obviously that doesn't mean that every single person (or even most!) of the class is bad, just that for whatever reason, your class has seemed to consistently have issues. I think you read way more into my comments than I intended.

Also, I didn't say anything about unethical, I think PnJ was the only comment that said anything about ethics.

I didn't take that approach for mass mailing, so I can't help you there. I went for hitting as many firms as I could in the city I wanted to be in, and got a couple screeners for my trouble.

For commercial law, I took it last fall and Keating used "Commercial Transactions: A Systems Approach" by Lopucki, Warren, Keating, and Mann. Can't remember the edition off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure it's whatever is most recent. Fifth, I think? Looking on the publisher's website there's a sixth edition coming out in 2016, so he might use that this year, obviously can't say for sure.

I didn't think it was a scary class, and ended up doing quite well. It's just a lot of material, which can be hard to stay on top of, but IME as long as you do the reading and the assigned problems you'll be fine.

Yea, I agree with this. Keating is great and it was more information than any other class, but if you prepare, you should be fine. Just don't get behind on his MC exam, the people I know who did badly either didn't really learn the shit, didn't finish the exam, or both.

Does any upperclassmen know about James Daily's Technology and Legal Practice? It is 2 credit hour class, but we meet twice a week for almost 90 minutes each. Any advice?

I've never heard of it before. Is it new? Seems like it may be useful though.

Your lack of self-awareness is hilarious. I wish you all the best in what's sure to be a long road ahead.

More on point, ek5dn: Commercial Law is a tough class, but if you're interested in taking a business-oriented course load, there's a fair amount of overlap between Commercial Law and Bankruptcy that I found made both a bit easier to digest, and BK ends pretty early in the semester. But if you're looking for a GPA pad, make sure you take the reorganization seminar in spring semester. It has a ridiculously high curve, and very manageable workload.
