Pretty sure wash u places more than 5-7 students in STL big law per year. Especially if you're taking a liberal definition.

lol how liberal are we talking here? i just drew the line at six-figures. That's like..LR, Husch, BC, TC, Greensfelder, Polsinelli, Dentons (maybe Lathrop, dunno how much they pay). Maybe we could add Armstrong if we expand definition to include upper five-figures or something. But even then that's less than ten firms with single-digit SA classes...(willing to concede that my estimate was low, but i'm not sure how much higher it would be)

From talks with CSO it looks like they want to increase NYC placement (which looks like it has improved) and West Coast placement (which seems like a lost cause).

Also curious if study abroad during law school in general is a good idea? Sounds fun but possibly pointless and a waste of time

Law school classes themselves are pretty pointless and a waste of time.

I guess one thing to think about, for those who care about this sort of thing, is the order of the coif requires a certain amount of graded credits to qualify.

Before you have issues with order of the coif, you'll have too many non-classroom credits (you get 18 or 19, can't remember which). Also the main issue with study abroad is that it's way tougher to find a job (unless you want to work in the place you're going). Of course, if you already have a job, that consideration becomes irrelevant.

Don't know anything about wustl except that you should study abroad or take shit classes with a bomb schedule in 3L if you have a job.

Think this applies to any school across all levels of education.

curious for anyone who had Goldwasser. did you repeat the rules in every claim brought? for example A v B in a battery claim, then C v D in a battery claim, would you restate the rule/elements again for C v D just for word counts sake? She said there is no need to repeat/copy and paste within the same question but was wondering about the affect on word count?

i was thinking of just straight up applying the rule/elements into the fact pattern, but curious in the importance of having a high word count.
edit: without stating the rule first

Having a high word count for its own sake will not help you. I assure you that Goldwasser doesn't assign any points based on word count, and that you can do quite well on the exam with word counts in the 4500-5000 range (that 17k nonsense from last year's class is totally unnecessary). You don't need to, for instance, define battery four times in the same question, but you do need to treat each question as totally separate.

Also, make sure you take Goldwasser up on the offer to go over a practice exam question. Only send the question you must want advice on because if you send in a while exam she'll just pick the first one.

this was my exam and it was for tamanaha, not goldwassar, unless someone else on TLS got exactly 17k words on torts for Goldwassar. My word count was boosted by copying and pasting instead of doing "See above" when possible. My friend had like 9-10k words and got same grade as me on that exam so i would agree that high word count on its own doesn't guarantee better grade.

However I disagree with those who dismiss high word count immediately. Most of these 1L exams are issue spotters. More words can mean--but not guarantee--that the student has spotted more issues and/or has included more analysis. Sure there's always the possibility that the analysis sucks or the issues are wrong, which is why I concede that high word count on its own isn't sufficient for a good grade.

platesup wrote: just for word counts sake?

Just spot all the issues and go as far down the analytical rabbit hole as you think is proper and move on. The only time word count on its own affects your exam score is if you go over a word limit.

I CALI'd Goldwasser's exam with only 7,000 words and without regurgitating the same elements every time. But there are many paths to success. Substance over form.

I know its finals time and all, but quick question: has anyone from the law school ever done this before?

...the Pointersaurus roams the Pointerverse waiting for your challenge - defeat the Pointersaurus and receive $500!

I'm also thinking of ordering this for dinner tonight and just paying for it, using it to sustain me until finals are over.

ETA: Not sure but I think this was too uncertain to be an offer by me. Merely an invitation to negotiate, I'd say. Who knows? Contracts will never come up again right?

(1L who may or may not have bombed contracts)
