I mean I requested a Dean's Cert, so theoretically i'd be removed and would be held to the original cutoffs, but it's not like it hurts me per se, it just doesn't give me a boost.

Just speculating, but I think a lot of students who applied to transfer, but didn't, complained about the change. It sort of hurts you guys because there are now more people ranked higher than you. It's also possible that firms and other schools got annoyed and bitched at CSO (we lose the advantage if other schools start to do it or if firms get pissed off).

You're right though, I thought the adjustment was super helpful and put the remaining students in even better positions. If a firm wants someone in the top 10% and Wash U can produce 18 people in that range as opposed to 13, it seems like a win-win.

+1

We need to get our aggregate placement up damnit

It pushed some people out the door. I can see both sides of it, and if you apply to transfer and stay it definitely hurts you because you're being forced to use a higher cutoff, while people around you have moved up.

The original cutoffs for 1L's last year:
1% = 4.00
5% = 3.88
10% = 3.84
15% = 3.81
20% = 3.75
25% = 3.71
33 1/3% = 3.68
197 students

The updated one after transfers
1% = 3.98
5% = 3.87
10% = 3.82
15% = 3.78
20% = 3.72
25% = 3.70
33 1/3% = 3.67
183 students

Does anyone else have a little bit of private rage when they see their professor didn't come close to using the highest allowable median? It drives me nuts.

Awarding non 2.5 F's is pretty cool, too.

Haven't checked this year, but La Pierre routinely uses 86.5. It's pretty ridiculous, and I wish they would just institute a set mean.

OOF, yeah he went 3.49 lowest allowable.
Tops of the classes was weird in ConLaw. Flagg gave out 9 3.94 and higher, Law only gave out 2, La Pierre gave out 6 despite his much lower median.

Last year he gave out two 100s, but only something like 1/4 of the class was at 90+, which seems pretty low to me.

iirc law also had 27 people between 3.76 and 3.70

yeah, he went for a lot of good not great grades at the expense of some really high grades.

There are about 5 remaining upper class grades missing-- or at least their distribution isn't there. How.

I know at least one of those missing grades has posted. I'm still missing credit for my externship, but I doubt that'll hold up the cutoffs.

Any thought on how low my GPA can drop to keep my transfer spot? Dropped .04.

I kind of doubt that your spot is in jeopardy as a result of the drop. Although I do think it's worth reevaluating whether you would like to go (depending on what your scholarship is like at your current school, what your ties to STL are, etc) because employers will judge you as if you were at your old school.

1L cutoffs are out.

Mainly posting to admit my shame for still caring about cutoffs as a graduate.

But still want them NAO.

If it makes you feel any better, I went off on a tirade today about the grade distribution in one of my classes this semester. Granted, it was completely warranted, but still.

Way way higher than last year's 1L class about .04 higher at most steps.
I wonder if that is related to class size, or just a more consistent grade distribution.
