I can't believe they're letting konig teach property again. But the credited supplement is understanding property, and the Gilbert by Krier is also good.

I think he'll do a good job (but then, I liked him the first time around also). Definitely get Sprankling's Understanding Property and use that for the BLL, and trust that over what Konig says in class. He's a really nice guy and I enjoyed the class, he just doesn't know the law cold. He's changed the syllabus around - the text will actually be a book that the publishers put together for him, with cases and sections of casebooks that he picked. A lot of the more confusing cases from last year are gone. I'm pretty confident that it'll be a better class this year. More importantly, unlike Mandelker, I thought Konig actually gave a really good fair test, with a lot of stuff for people to play with. (But then, I would say that).
Compared to Mandelkers 5 300 word limit questions which are simply cases from class with the names filed off, I'd take Konig a million times over before Mandelker.

honestly...if there was one 1L course where you could slack off and not do anything in and still have a shot at a good grade, it's Papa Mandy.
I'm speaking from experience here. The only exam advice you need is READ THE FUCKING QUESTION.

Which is awful if you want to get good grades. Because you can't outwork your classmates, you can't be smarter than your classmates - this is why there is an anti-correlation between Mandelker and other profs for grading. It's not even a no-correlation, it's (oddly enough) an anti-correlation, as far as we can tell. So if you get Mandelker and you want to be in the top 10%, you've got a much much harder road to travel. If you want to slack off and still have a shot at good grades, Mandelker is fine. I'm assuming people on TLS actually want to do well though.

Alright TLS folks
Tamanaha-Torts

From previous posts it looks like a pretty solid grouping? Hopefully?

Konig is probably the least bad Property professor. Tamanaha is amazing (or so I hear), and I don't really know much about Smith. I can't remember anyone complaining about her though.
Least bad....I'm LOVING the sound of that
edit: that's not sarcasm, I actually am loving the sound of that

Hey, you didn't get Mandelker. So that's a win. Scroll up like.... 5 posts and we talk about Konig a little bit.

Hahaha yeah, I did read the post on Konig. That would've been pretty inexcusable if I didn't catch it.

Peggy's solid, not spectacular. I'd avoid her group office hours if you value your time- the two times I went, people constantly asked really, really stupid questions. Tamanaha is freaking awesome.

Based on my section, no, Mandelker grades were not negatively correlated with other 1L grades. Just like every other prof, you have to know what he's looking for, but unlike every other professor, he's pretty explicit on that front. Identify the BLL, give the case(s) in the book, then give a succinct analysis. Oh, and READ THE FUCKING QUESTION. It's basically a take home exam, only you take it in class. It's usually a flatter curve than your other classes, but unless you're in the top 1%, that's actually better than a drawn out curve.

Your experience did not match that of my friends who had the class last year. See what Hoos89 wrote. Every friend of mine who had Mandelker got royally boned and did well in all of their other classes. I haven't heard of anyone who had good grades in other classes and a good grade from Mandelker.

So I got Tamahana for Torts which people seem to say is excellent:
Any thoughts on Dinner for Property and/or Smith for Contracts?

we're in the same section. i remember someone telling me smith calls on a different "panel" of a few students every class instead of cold-calling. can anyone who had smith last year verify if she still does this and/ or comment on her exam tendencies?

I remember wondering which professors did what last year. It's all pointless really. You'll get a good feel within the first week or 2.

Tamanaha was by far my favorite first year professor. He picks 1 person every class and grills them on the reading, but you will learn more to "think like a lawyer" in his class than any other first year professor I know. He is a hardass/intimidating in class at first but is extremely helpful if you email him or go to office hours. Assigns a ton of reading but just power through it.
Dinner is still learning how to be a professor. She is a genius, but is too nice sometimes and lets class get off topic easily/refuses to tell somebody straight up "no, that is wrong, stop being dumb." Her scholarship is mostly in gender issues, so if you can find a way to incorporate those into her exam you will get bonus points. Also she gives out a bunch of high grades so it is a class you can really bump up your GPA in if you put in the time. Doesn't assign much reading so easy to keep up in.
Don't know anything about smith.

By far the most important thing for Greenfield is learning how to craft an issue statement. Also, his is one class where you absolutely have to prepare each day.
