There's two options: Charter (cable) and AT&T (DSL). They both suck. Charter is very expensive and AT&T is terrible service and their customer service is nightmarish. I got so mad at AT&T I just dropped internet at my apartment altogether. Made me more motivated to get to the library and study. I have a smartphone for e-mail, etc. And I later figured out how to tether my phone to use as a portable modem.

Now, not everyone's as stubborn as me, but I'd rather go without internet than pay an obnoxious monopoly like AT&T. But it is the cheaper and slower alternative.

Charter internet, while somewhat expensive, is actually very very very reliable. I honestly can't remember a single time my internet has gone out for more than a couple of minutes in 5 years.

Do we NEED a suit in the fall as a 1L? I have a decent suit that's good enough for events and stuff, but I wouldn't want to wear it on an interview or anything. Right now I'm just putting all my funds towards moving etc and don't know if I can get a new one til winter break.

I've been using charter and have been very happy with it, as someone who spends way too much time on the internet.

First day of orientation you are supposed to suit up, but the only problem with not doing so is being the only guy there not suited up - it has no real repercussions in any way, and it definitely doesn't have to be an interview suit. You'll be fine waiting until winter break for an interview suit.

Any recommendations for a good barber in the area?

Recommendations for a groomer? We have a 60-pound golden doodle that has to be groomed about every 6 weeks or so, and I'd like to find someone affordable that won't do the lazy thing and cut her so short she looks like a cancer patient.

Southtown Barber Shop. $25 for a cut and a straight shave. Cutters in the Chase is also solid for haircuts but no shave.

There's been a lot of chatter about cars being stolen/broken into and i'm freaking out because I'm bringing a new car to school...Are there certain neighborhoods where this is more/less likely to happen? Cuz as of right now i'm planning on just always parking next to a much nicer car than mine so that mine doesn't look as appetizing in comparison.

noticeable increase in sketchiness north of delmar, and some parts east of skinker.

also, slash your registration tags with a razor so they don't get stolen

It's a city. Those types of things happen in cities. As far as likelihood by neighborhood I would go U-City-->Soulard--->Downtown--->CWE---> Tower Grove/Dogtown--->Clayton.

This all depends on actual location in the neighborhood of course, but as a rough guide it is probably good. If you are that concerned you can park in a gated lot.

Also +1 for tags. That shit happens all the time.

Do most people usually just use the Metro and bus system to get around? I plan on taking my car, but I hope not to have to use it much.

I do, but I'm in the minority. It really depends on where you live and where you're going. It's free though, so that's nice.

If it's free, I'm using it.

Really looking forward to it. I was actually born in St. Charles, so it feels like a homecoming of sorts. A few family friends still live in the area.

Big fan of Cecil Whitaker's Pizza, I noticed there's one not far from my apartment.

I was following this thread http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=211724 about the whole reranking things and I'm kinda confused. What happens to people that decide not to transfer but request the dean's certificate? They can't claim a % or rank?

Kinda surprised to hear it was WUSTL, since I cant ask in that forum, if I have no plans to transfer, this will only help me right?

TO: JD Class of 2015

Each year a small number of students transfer out to other institutions after their 1L year. In an effort to more accurately reflect your academic standing, we have recalculated Class rank and Class rank cutoffs, including the Dean’s List (based on the Semester GPA) – see below. These revised calculations do not include your peers who have applied to transfer (since historically most students who apply to transfer do end up transferring). Because many of these transferring students rank high in the class, it is possible that these revised calculations will positively impact your standing. Please review the attached information closely to see if you now fall within a higher class rank cutoff. This is the only recalculation of the standings that will be done this summer. Per xxx, you may reflect your new standing on your resume, if applicable. No special notation is required and you should follow the guidelines previously provided. If you have already submitted resumes with your prior standing and that standing is now higher, you are free to send an updated resume to that employer. If you have questions, you may contact xxx at xxxx or xxx@wulaw.wustl.edu.

Notes:
- If you are a student who has requested from the Registrar’s Office a letter of good standing or submission of an application to transfer to another school, any changes in the below cut-offs do not apply to you since they are based on a list that does not include your name
Basically, if you requested a deans certificate or applied to transfer, you can't use the new rankings and have to continue to use the old ones. They have to require that, because otherwise things would start to get a bit unethical.

Thanks randomnumbers. Does anyone know how much their rank improved by? (I guess you can pm me if you don't wanna out it). Like if you were #19 are you #10 now or whatever. That'd be awesome.

It looks like 7-8 people from the top 30-40 people were removed from the rankings, but it's definitely a number less than 10 (which is really all we can know for sure from the available data). I'd guess 4-5 of them were from the top ~15 students.

I asked this before for STL in general, but can anyone recommend a gym in CWE? Club Fitness sounds like a good deal but I'd go more often if I found one closer to my apartment.
