The same kind of system where typing speed determines whether you can live in either a mansion by the ocean or in a cardboard box on the outskirts of downtown St. Louis.

I can't resist the urge to go there if you leave the door this wide open.
I dunno if he left the door wide open so much as he held it for you.

Not completely true. They took my shitty LSAT for my shiny GPA :)

Also, for those interested in public interest WashU has one of the best LRAP programs in the country and by far the best in the 15-20 rank range. They also have amazing joint degree programs (I basically got a full ride for their MSW program which is number 1 in the country). Anyone interested in PI work should feel free to send me a PM!
I'm curious, could you elaborate on how the LRAP program works? This is something all schools should be focusing on, given how many graduates simply can't repay >100K in loans with salaries that on average are way below the 85K or so needed to pay loans back on a normal repayment plan.
Well LRAP is intended for those who work gov./PI. At WashU there's a certain salary max you can make to be eligible and I think it's somewhere around 50k. If you work public interest and make that or less WashU will make a percentage of your loan payments depending on your salary. At around 30k I believe they pay all and like 20% around 50k. I'm guessing on these numbers because the sheet is not right in front of me, but I know they're somewhere in this ballpark. After c/o 2010 LRAP is combined with IBR and the public interest loan forgiveness program. If you're making around 85k LRAP isn't for you and idk of a school that would have an LRAP program for you (if there is one it's gotta be like Harvard or Georgetown they have amazing LRAPs). 85k you can still do IBR.

^You may be talking about the old LRAP program, although I do think that current and future classes can do the old program if you don't enroll in IBR.

Under the new program (which usually works out to be better than the old one, from my reading of the materials), WUSTL basically covers your loan payments = to 6% of your income, up to incomes of $70,000. You must be enrolled in IBR and have a public service job. Upward or downward adjustments to your income are made based on your assets, if you have a spouse or kids, etc.

Is it bad form to straight up ask for an outline? Even if it is, I'm about desperate enough to not care if it leads to one. My property outline is going nowhere, and at this point I would be thrilled to hit median. If any 2Ls have a Mandelker outline they'd be willing to share (new casebook, so it isn't a total freebie for me, but it would be a great help), I would be extremely grateful.

Really wishing I had kept briefing cases for that class, even thought it was a total waste in all the others.

What's the air quality like in St. Louis? That might sound like a picky question but I have stupid nerd asthma and breathing is important.

I don't have asthma, but I feel like I'm fairly sensitive to air quality, and I haven't noticed anything egregious.

My dad has Asthma and has lived in St. Louis his whole life without problems. I have allergies, and it can be bad during the fall, but I have no problems other than that. You might have a problem in some bars, because if their food sales are less than 20% of their total sales (so most of the "clubs"/ mostly night bars/ all casinos) you can smoke in them in St. Louis.

The smoke in Lumiere is terrible. They say no smoking in the poker room, which is great, but it's not closed off from the rest of the casino. So the old person playing penny slots is chain smoking ~20 feet from you.

You mean other than the asthma? If he's lived here his whole life he has no frame of reference.

Worker and Parasite if this is important to you you should probably come visit and experience for yourself.

EDIT: worst asthma cities

Yes, you're right. He is a grown man who has never traveled outside of the St. Louis metropolitan area. He has no idea what air is like anywhere else.

I think the poster understood my response, but to make sure everything is clear: His asthma does not act up any greater in St. Louis than it does in the suburbs/countryside, and acts up less than in other metropolitan areas such as Chicago and Minneapolis.

If you mean USNWR rankings, none.

If you mean my class ranking, then a lot. I can't focus. This will be a lost day.

St. Louis has bad air quality, but it is far worse across the river in Madison county, IL because of a giant steel mill, chemical plants, a giant refinery, etc. The windows blow east, so most of it is blown away. However most of the power in Missouri comes from coal, and there are 3 coal fired plants surrounding st. louis.

The air isn't harbl but it's worse than many other places, even larger cities.

The air is much better than in California though.

I dunno man, I'm kinda glad the Cards didn't pony up $250 million/10 years. Maybe the Angels can absorb that kind of contract, but that would've put the Cards in a tough place, particularly if Pujols were to get injured (whatever happened to those nagging elbow problems?), and definitely as he gets older (his stats have already been declining). We're talking $25 million/year through the ages of 37-42. You'd have to hope he'd add a lot of value to your club in the first half of that contract, as I can't imagine fielding a playoff-caliber team in the latter half of the deal with a quarter of your payroll attached to an aging superstar. Still, it sucks to see him go; part of me was definitely hoping he'd take the Cards' offer, even if it might handicap the club for a few years.

Anyway... to make this post relevant: so I just heard today that Thompson Coburn is having a holiday reception on the 28th. Anyone know of any other firms hosting receptions over winter break? Also, if ya'll have been to any of these receptions before, care to share your experience? All I've been told is the date, time, location, and RSVP contact - otherwise, not quite sure what to expect.

I was just joking around. Are you guys in finals right now? I can't imagine having to study yesterday when I heard the news. I went from being completely rational about the contract to wanting him back in about three minutes when the contract talks started heating up this week. I can't imagine what it's going to be like seeing him in another uniform and not seeing him in the lineup. It was weird enough when he was on the DL.

It literally took away half of my studying time on Thursday, and I had an exam Friday morning. I was in a daze most of the day Thursday. I still alternate between 1) depressed at the loss of the Stan Musial of my lifetime knowing that this will really alter his legacy here forever, 2) content knowing that we made the right move by refusing to offer that kind of insane money, and 3) angry because I believe he strung us along with his "It's not about the money, I wouldn't leave for an extra 3-4 million, it's about winning, St. Louis is where I want to be forever" schtick, and then hiding behind his faith as a motivating factor, as if Jesus told him to take the money.

Oh well. Go Cards.

I wish Jesus had given me a 4.4 40 or a 95 mile an hour fastball so I didn't have to be studying for finals right now.

Same for me, and this seems to be what all of my friends were thinking too. I do think 1) will be what anyone talks about when Pujols as a Cardinal is brought up. You're baseball thread post is otm. All this whole thing is taught me is how much I love St. Louis and how much I want to live there when I grow and be a real boy. The Cardinals really are so much bigger than just another sports team in STL. I know they have been to me when as I've been growing up. And that is why I can't help but want to go to Wash U so badly. (on topic-ish)

edit: I just hope Jesus gives me a SA, so I can serve him by paying off my incoming loans.

Same here. I'm at UG at WUSTL, and this totally ruined my last days of classes. I did convince my bf to turn the 5 on the back of his Pujols jersey into a dollar sign with a Sharpie, though, so at least there's that.

As much as I am against damaging a cards jersey (we aren't Cleveland) ^^that was clever. I approve.

Reading the stuff on the ASBB, it sounds like the only way to get on to the law review is to write on after finishing 1L year. Is that true?
