That's a pretty solid lineup. Drobak is a genuinely nice person and a good teacher, while Osgood is very quirky and will call people out for saying dumb shit (which is usually hilarious). Two of my favorite professors at Wash U. Haven't had Magarian though, but I've heard good things.bluedolphin wrote:Anyone know much about Drobak, Magarian, and Osgood?

While we're on the subject of professors, anyone have the scoop on Rosenbury? I'm pretty excited to have her simply by virtue of her not being konig or mandelker, but I don't know anything substantive besides that.

Also what do WUSTL people generally do there 1L summer?
Mainly judge stuff?
For 1L SA's I assume 5% or 10% is the cutoff for interviews, much less offers correct?

Or diversity, diversity programs can land 1L's firm jobs, even with not so amazing grades.bluedolphin wrote:Also what do WUSTL people generally do there 1L summer?

Most people I know worked for Prosecutor's/PD's offices, judges, small firms, RA'ed, or worked at non-profit offices. wustl has a stipend which gives ~$3,000 for most 1L unpaid jobs which is nice.

Ugh both exams sound awful... So much to look forward toBirdnals wrote:Magarian is a phenomenal professor, clerked for Justice Stevens, and is a genius. He also has a 24 hour take home final with a strict 3,000 word limit, and taking that test was easily the worst experience of my law school career. It sucks. Magarian is probably my favorite wustl professor but I will never take another one of his classes because of his finals.
Papa Drobak is a wustl institution and is a great professor. He has a closed book final which will be tough but fair.

In-house is also possible, though rare. Definitely worth a shot though.Birdnals wrote:Or diversity, diversity programs can land 1L's firm jobs, even with not so amazing grades.bluedolphin wrote:Also what do WUSTL people generally do there 1L summer?

What's the deal with the stipend not being available if you work for a judge? Isn't that gov't? I thought I may want to work for a judge this summer, but making no money would kind of suck.Birdnals wrote:Or diversity, diversity programs can land 1L's firm jobs, even with not so amazing grades.bluedolphin wrote:Also what do WUSTL people generally do there 1L summer?

Closed book isn't that bad. Nobody has their outline so you're not expected to remember minor details or case names.scottidsntknow wrote: Ugh both exams sound awful... So much to look forward to
I'm not sure that it's available for government positions either, besides maybe PD. I don't think you can get it for working at the DA's office, for instance. Working for a judge isn't really "public interest".LET'S GET IT wrote:

Yea but the 24 hour take home sounds like hell. Plus, they're both just very different than the ones I've taken, so I'll need to adjust.

I assume you're asking about civpro. At the risk of sounding like a broken record in this thread, this is another one where simply understanding the material will put you ahead of the curve. People seemed to struggle to work through the nuance of a jurisdictional question. This is one class where an E&E can be really helpful (unlike torts, where the rules are so simple there's no point). Don't even read Pennoyer, it will make you crazy and serves no purpose. Levin had a pretty normal issue spotter.winemeup wrote:And advice/info for Levin

You don't have to go any of the workshops you don't want to. It's not graded so what are they going to do if you miss them? Go to the ones you think are helpful and skip the rest.

Any warnings/tips/advice for: Kim (civpro), Osgood, (crim), La Pierre (con law)? Also, any supps you would recommend for these particular courses/profs. TYIA!
Edit: Also, do they all allow laptops?

1. Don't leave the exam an hour early to get mediocre roast beef with your roommate.LET'S GET IT wrote:Any warnings/tips/advice for: Kim (civpro)
2. Larry Lawyer is never guaranteed.
3. For the past two years she let you bring in an exam outline of sorts into the final with you, i think it's one page double sided. So practice condensing/summarizing the material when you're initially learning it.
4. Buy E&E. It'll help when you get to junk like third-party impleaders, counter/cross claims, and joinder
5. There's an Emmanuel's supplement in the campus bookstore that's keyed to her casebook (the red one, not the supplement u buy at the copy store). Helps with the nightly readings and pulling the important concepts from the readings
6. I didn't use it but my friends found Acing Civ Pro helpful. They all did better than me.
Kim didn't. Neither did Legomsky (for those who have him)LET'S GET IT wrote: Edit: Also, do they all allow laptops?

So when I leave the exam an hour early, go with the chicken parm. Got it.cusenation wrote:1. Don't leave the exam an hour early to get mediocre roast beef with your roommate.LET'S GET IT wrote:Any warnings/tips/advice for: Kim (civpro)

The 24 hour take home is only hell because law school students are insane. If you understand that the 24 hours should include 8 hours of sleep, and have chemeriski by your side, it's actually a pretty nice respite during exams.scottidsntknow wrote:Yea but the 24 hour take home sounds like hell.
