Thanks -- so let me get this straight:Fiero85 wrote:You could definitely get a place in Soulard to fit your preferences but it's gonna take more effeort/leg work.
Pros - It's gonna be by far the cheapest of the ones discussed so far, and within biking distance of downtown and the Arch park. So that's a plus. If you find a nice place in Soulard it's still gonna be cheap as can be.
Cons - older, not as nice of a neighborhood in terms of updates/renovations, and much louder/wild on holidays and some weekends (Mardi Gras is like a an annual party tornado in Soulard, a hurricane of people drunk on hurricanes and AB products). Not sure if you care but just a heads up on that. Might fit your "interesting" criterion lol
It'll be harder to find a nice place in Soulard? That seems like the main con, right? Assuming I'm able to find a nice place, how much of a concern is the general loudness of the neighborhood? I'll definitely spend the occasional night out partying ... but at 30 and heading to a firm, would probably rather not be kept up regularly by college students or whoever else (that's somewhat of a concern of mine about living close to the universities in the western part of the city). Is Soulard St. Louis's equivalent of Wrigleyville (where drunk bros make life generally pretty unpleasant on or around the main streets 3+ nights a week -- but also where you can find some nicer quieter places a couple blocks further away from the action)?

Yeah the main con is that it'll be harder to find a nice place, cuz it's an older and less classy neighborhood than CWE. Everything else fits your preferences and the price will be the least. It's super close to downtown. Tower grove is worth investigating because it is between those two: medium price and convenience to downtown, not "out of it" but not a partying area. But Soulard is a good match for your goals if you can find an open nice place.
I'm gonna have to punt on answering to the specifics of how loud on weeknights and how often that comes up. Sorry. I haven't actually lived there or asked for a more detailed breakdown from friends. I just know for sure on holidays it def will be loud/crazy and weekends it might be. Probably is ok on weeknights but I don't wanna promise you anything I can't back up.

I'd check out Lafeyette Square as well. It's a 5 min drive from downtown and I know a bunch of associates at my firm live in that area. There's some good restaurants and I think there's a park.

Thanks for the tip -- Lafayette Square seems pretty sweet.
In terms of safety in the city, would it be a problem for me to go running after dark in any of these neighborhoods (or in Forest Park)? I don't cut a particularly imposing figure

Not sure. I would ask this in the WUSTL transfer thread. Almost all the posters here started as 1L's.ivankinghk wrote:guys think i have a chance? TTTT 3.57 19%. Just had interview the other day.

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
Can anyone recommend good buildings in CWE or Clayton? I've only visited St. Louis once (overnight for ASW) and didn't have time to look at housing. My priorities are safety, renovated units, and amenities (gym). Thank you!

Re: WUSTL Recent Grad (and others) Taking Questions
DC doesn't require ties, and frankly I'm not sure how much ties even help. DC is really competitive though, but I would still go. And yes, I would go to both days. Id suggest staying on the east coast that whole week if you can.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
