Re: BU 1L & 2L Taking Questions
Oh and I'd like to second what people are saying about merit aid money. Seems like most people I talk to get some money. Many of them have very substantial awards. And BU was more than willing to negotiate with those who have a sound basis for asking for merit aid increase. I thought I had a basis for such a request and BU responded by offering me on-campus housing for a year. Their generosity with financial aid helps them pluck A LOT of top students who would perhaps otherwise be at Top 10 schools. I was at dinner the other night and people somehow ended up on the topic of schools they were considering. In a group of about 8 or 9 people, I heard of acceptances from U Chicago, Columbia, Michigan, and Cornell.

Re: BU 1Ls & 2Ls Taking Questions
To the poster above who asked about Boston, I would encourage you to do what I did when I applied to law school. I had never really been anywhere outside my home state and I wasn't interested in staying local. So I applied to many schools and visited the ones I got into. I checked out Cornell, Fordham and the NYC area, USC and Los Angeles, and BU BC in Boston. Not only did I love BU, but I liked Boston more than anywhere else. It's got a much more relaxed vibe, but has everything you could ever want. Let's face it, whether you are going to a second tier school or the T14, you are more likely than not going to work where you go to school. BU will get me the best jobs in Boston and I like Boston the best.
As for the 2L's/3L's, of the 7 or 8 I regularly hang out with, every one of them has a firm job, except one who turned down a firm for a small family law gig. So either I hang out with successful people, or BU really does place well.

Thanks that's really helpful. I'm on the other side of the world, and won't be able to visit anywhere I don't think - I can see that it would be ideal though. It's just too expensive I'm fairly confident I'd love Boston, I love big cities/history/culture/diverse foods etc.
Unfortunately it's all just dreaming atm

Re: BU 1Ls & 2Ls Taking Questions
lol sure.
what was your major, GPA in college?
hows social life in BU (i know its what you make of it) but the school that I go to I have hard time making new friends because people commute to school and already have their own group of friends. Do people usually socialize with their own pre-existing friends rather than new friendships in the law school?

The social scene here is amazing, one massive party (though I know that phase is soon drawing to a close). There are weekly bar reviews that usually have 50+ law students, some academic seminar with free food every day if thats more your thing. I mean, hell--they have a booze cruise with 300+ people. Not many people seem to have pre-existing friends, and BU isn't much of a commuter school, everyone lives within 15 minutes by T.

Re: BU 1Ls & 2Ls Taking Questions
Just a 1L, so I haven't really go much to say about job prospects, but anecdotally they are good. All of my friends who are 2L's and 3L's seem to be doing well. Very well. Nearly everyone has a firm job or something as good lined up. They all have glowing remarks for career services, many say it is one of the best in existence. My friends at 2 T-14 schools loath their CDO and say it sucks.apollo13 wrote: Dude that's baller. another two, are you planning to stay in Boston after graduation - what are your job prospects? how about the general atmosphere of the school?

I love the CDO. They're really really top-notch. As for career prospects, I'm around top 40%, but on Law Review (which is a little bit of a boost) and I'll be working at a V25 in Boston this summer. I know a bunch of people with V5 offers and on down. I think I may hang out with a disproportionate group, but I know a lot of people with great offers.Cupidity wrote:Just a 1L, so I haven't really go much to say about job prospects, but anecdotally they are good. Re: BU 1Ls & 2Ls Taking Questions
BU Class of 2004 here. Can't believe it's been 9 years since I was a 1L cramming for the first round of exams.
Anyway, glad to hear you 1Ls and 2Ls are doing well. In my circle of law school friends (8-9 people), 3 are still at large law firms (1NY, 2CA), 1 at a small law firm, 1 general counsel for a private equity firm, 1 an assistant US Attorney, 1 is a jet-setting diplomat not practicing law, 1 just became a full-time junior faculty at a T5 school, 1 a DA in Manhattan and one with her own decent private practice after 5 years at a V50.
So, either I was very good at picking friends, or the BU Law education has helped us go far and wide. Good luck. Law school was amazing, but it gets even better.

And yes. If and when a BU Law resume crosses my desk, I will give it special consideration. Alumni network matters. It did for me.

Yup I did, thanks! It was a tough as hell decision. Let me know how the other place works out for you! I'm sure you'll love it (and I hope I don't regret my decision, hehe).

Yes, LRW is graded. But I think the average grade in LRW is higher than the typical curve median, so the average student actually gets a GPA boost from LRW.whymeohgodno wrote:Do you guys have graded LRW?

I was accepted right around this time last year. BU was one of the first schools I got into, and I remember that they personally called me very late on a Friday afternoon.gin wrote:Since it's that time of the year:

Regular Curve is a B+, LRW Curve is A- and it is only 1.5 credits, compared to 4.0 for most classes.whymeohgodno wrote:Do you guys have graded LRW?

Re: BU 1Ls & 2Ls Taking Questions
I remember being all happy thinking I was above average, until I realized that most everyone in LRW was getting the same grade as me due to the higher average. Was sort of disheartening. But hey, an A level grade will never look bad to an employer.Cupidity wrote:Regular Curve is a B+, LRW Curve is A- and it is only 1.5 credits, compared to 4.0 for most classes.whymeohgodno wrote:Do you guys have graded LRW?

I'll trade your disheartening A- for my B+.
