Question: I am unlikely to be able to arrange the whole interview thing, given that I am overseas in a city that is highly unlikely to have any Northwestern grads (Shenyang China, I am one of about 12 foreigners in a city of 10 million). Should I even bother applying?

So...I'm getting to Chicago around 9AM, and my interview isn't until 3:15. Other than a tour of the law school, any other suggestions on how to spend my time and/or quiet places to hang out?

Does NU have on-campus housing? The apartments in Gold Coast are uber expensive. (seriously, $1,500 for a one bed? That's like, Manhattan prices)

One for married person, and a another that is basically just a shitty apartment complex owned by school.

You can get a decent studio (that are very large) for 1100. Or you can move further away from downtown and just commute.

You can get a one-bed at 860 DeWitt for about $1100.

Manhattan prices are about double that...

Quick question - Do you know of any folks with foreign LLBs doing the JD at Northwestern? How have they fared during the OCI?

Studio in Morningside (around Columbia) can be had for $1,300. In Union Square, $1,500. Probably for something equivalent it'll be double.

EDIT: RC Fail. I totally read studio. I guess this is why I keep getting -10 on RC. Studying for the LSAT for 3 hours straight has that effect.

Any sense of people's debt loads at NU? Looking at LSN, it doesn't look like NU spreads the wealth very far. Is your sense that most students are borrowing the full cost of attendance?

Any PI folks want to weigh in on their views about NU's lrap? Thanks!

Most people are going to end up 220K lighter after attending NU.

More or less what I figured, I guess I was curious if that was 220k in the hole, or did people's vast WE also bring sufficient riches? (Why did I waste so many years in grad school? :( )

Right, but Streeterville (where NU is located) is more like Midtown than Morningside Heights or Union Square...

Some bring a decent amount, for example ibankers and engineers, but many bring negligible savings. Some showed up with damn near nothing.

My savings are being blown on a lifestyle that loans couldn't support.

Blast! Plan B: Adopt as many other 1L's as possible so as to qualify for more aid.

Yeah but I'd sure as hell not live in Midtown while going to NYU or Columbia (lol at the thought that I could get into either but still). I'd live in Union Square/EV or Morningside.

You can live in Lincoln Park. A nice studio there will run you about $800/mo.

I'm going to take IP next semster. What should my second elective be with the following criteria:

1)No seminars because I hate writing.
2)Good chance of getting an A.
3)As little reading as possible.

There is like economic analysis and the law or something like that. No writing, just math.

How far's the commute though, 20 minutes by subway?

20 minutes from the Lincoln Park subway to the school doors. But you'd have to get to the original stop. 30 minutes would be a high end average.

Not to hijack thread, but do any of you current NU students have access to a listserv? I am looking for Chicago summer sublet and I would not mind living in McClurg...
