I was admitted with a $12,000 scholarship(miserable LSAT thanks to 60 hour AmeriCorps work weeks  ). I am one of those who is pursuing a law degree for ideaological reasons--I want the intellectual challenge. I am also planning to apply for the JD/MPA program, as I think its only smart to give oneself options. Any thoughts on this program? Also, what are the study abroad options? I speak German and would like to move my career towards Germany.

Are you planning to do government work in Germany? If not, the MPA seems like a waste. Frankly, and I am biased as an MBA, but I don't think there's anything you gain by getting an MPA that you wouldn't get (plus much more) with an MBA.

Also, re: scholarships at Akron Law, please read back through this thread. My understanding is that they play the scholarship shell game.

I was accepted to Akron Law and can go for free (GI bill) not from a scholarship.

It seems like the biggest complaint about the school is that the scholarship money is hard to hold onto. Are there any other major problems with the school? Especially since that doesn't matter to me.

I have a low GPA (uGPA 2.33) so it will be really hard for me to get into a higher ranked school.

I've been accepted to Akron, and have done some research.

Don't discount those scholarship issues. There is a really good chance you will lose some or all of it at Akron. If you think you can do it, remember that so does everyone else.

OSU and Case Western seem considerably better in terms of prestige and job prospects, which, in my opinion, should be huge factors in someone's decision on which law school to attend, even moreso than price. If I remember correctly, OSU isn't even *that* much more expensive than Akron. If OSU or Case Western accepts me, I'll attend either of those without hesitation, even if I have to take much more debt.

From what I've read, consider Akron a regional middle-of-the-road school. It's okay.

What you said was good general advice, but dude said he didn't have the numbers to get into a better school and would be using the GI Bill, not a scholarship. You're going all non sequitur on him.

You're right. I was browsing on too many tabs, one of them re-reading this thread, and forgot he'd be going on the GI bill. My bad.

EDIT: Geez. I even missed him spelling it out to me that it didn't matter. Reading comprehension ftl.

Thank you. I am going to visit this weekend and get a feel for the school and area. I have to decide whether I would want to move my family there for at least 3 years. :D
