Pitt gave me 12k a year, and PSU gave me 20K, so the latter would be a bit more expensive in terms of tuition. I know Pitt is better in general for Western PA, but I don't know yet where I want to live. Probably, stay in the state, but who knows where. I am interested in government work. Do you think the proximity to Harrisburg should outweigh the friends and family in the Pittsburgh region I possess (I know this is subjective, I was just curious for your opinion)? Thanks.
There's clearly more to that question than I'm prepared for, but I'll just tell you that two of my friends from Pittsburgh have managed jobs back in Pittsburgh for the summer, I believe (or perhaps I only heard they were interviewing...not sure). One in a DA's office and another in a private firm.

As far as gov't work though, Penn State, specifically the Carlisle campus, will offer you the best opportunities. If you're split between working in Pittsburgh or doing state gov't, you've got a tough decision ahead of you!

Well, I've decided upon the Carlisle campus. The question I'm trying to gauge is whether Pitt and PSU will continue to be peer schools, or if PSU's upward trajectory will continue, and some distinct separation will emerge between the two. Thoughts?

If I could answer that, I wouldn't be in law school ;)

Penn State does have a better undergrad rep to build upon. Then again, Pittsburgh has a market to itself.

I graduated from DSL before it was PSU. A little history....
Penn State wanted a good law school but didn't want to work at starting one. It sweet-talked DSL into getting into bed with it by promising to keep the school in Carlisle and helping improve the facilities, etc. After the marriage, PSU started talking about closing the Carlisle campus and moving the law school to UP. DSL and Carlisle and DSL alumni kicked up a mighty fuss. Eventually they settled on this ridiculous two-campus plan.
You can find a pretty complete archive of news stories about it here:

Carlisle is a wonderful town to live in while going to law school. I can't speak to UP.

Hey all! SoxyPirate did a great job, and I concur with most of her answers (but I'm a 2L at the Carlisle campus so I don't know too, too much about some of the UP specific questions). As a result, if you have any Carlisle directed questions or questions a 2L could help you with, shoot!

Oh, I did see one about Law Review and Moot Court. I am on Law Review and Moot Court Board (not a team, but I was in charge of helping pass the new Moot system bylaws), and I'm pretty sure the administration added that you cannot do both due to severe time contraints...and they are very, very right about this. I'll double check and let you know for sure though, so don't quote me!

Of all the questions asked on TLS, this is the one I can answer with the most sincerity.

"I wish I knew."

How do they set up 1L classes? Do you have each class everyday, or is it MWF and TTH?

It depends on your section, but no class is every day.

Last semester I had Civ Pro MWF, Torts MW, Crim TTh, Writing TTH (those are the only classes you'll take 1st semester).

This semester I have Contracts MWF, Property MWF, Elective MW, Con Law WF, Writing TTH.

There are 3 sections at UP (6 LRAW sections), 1 section at Carlisle (? LRAW sections). If I'm not mistaken, 2 of the 3 sections at UP have their classes during the same time slots, while the other is in class at a different time.

When do we receive our student ID numbers? I think I need it to apply to live at the White Course Apartments. It also says I need access to something called eLiving...any idea about that?
