Rising 2Ls headed into EIW, is there a sense of how it's going to go for median folks? Where in the class do you need to be to have a realistic shot at V10 firms in NYC (i know the vault rankings are stupid but just humor me)?

Hey all. Newly admitted transfer here. Any recommendations on housing?

Or any feelings toward the Manhattan Flats? Let me know if I should veer away

Have done quite a bit of research and haven't really found anything so far, so I'm getting worried.

Budget is $1300. Don't mind living further away as long as it's close to a bus stop.

Try this site if you haven't. https://hotpads.com/ann-arbor-ann-arbor ... n=-83.7425

Also, a lot of law students live in City Place, an apartment complex that has 6 beds, 6 baths per apartment. They usually have open rooms. http://www.campusvillage.com/communities/annarbor/

Not sure if Munger has space left but you might want to check. http://mungerresidences.org/

You could also search around for facebook groups. I found this one and I'm sure there are others https://www.facebook.com/groups/342605639120386/

Thoughts on the odds of getting on a journal as a transfer? I know LR is a crapshoot, but how hard is it to get on the others?

Not hard. If you can cite-check reasonably well and your writing sample isn't total trash, you'll get something, assuming you applied to more than one secondary journal. The c/o 2018 is like 80 students smaller than c/o 2017, so some journals will be hard up for members just to keep their numbers from dropping/workload from increasing.

Schedule is out. Got allotted into Section N here, and the following profs:

Civ Pro: Pritchard
Contracts: Rauterberg
Crim: Uhlman
Legal Practice: Mansour

I wonder if anyone has had any class with any of these folks, especially with Rauterberg and Mansour. They're not listed on the faculty register.

Does Pritchard not share old exams? I can't find any in the database. :(

Hi there!
I am not quite sure how this thread works - would it be not welcome to ask for PS advice/review here?
I am aiming for 2017 entry and currently working through my applications. Would really appreciate if someone can offer some advice on my PS/other materials, or is willing to have a chat - please write me a private message!

Thanks a ton, :)

I know this is over a year old, but I'm here desperately asking the same question! Does anyone have an old Clark torts outline they can pass along? He's a visiting prof at my school this year, so not much help looking at our databases.

What is Ann Arbor like? If I'm coming from a big city, will I find comfortable amenities? Do students ever go to Detroit on trips/night outs? Is cost of living/housing high?

I came here from NYC, so I can only compare to that. It's definitely smaller, quieter, and has less going on, but you'll absolutely have everything you need. Not sure what you mean by amenities, so let me know if you're thinking about something specifically. Overall, cost of living is a whole lot cheaper (housing and food specifically). Good food options (not as diverse as NYC, but nothing is), lots of local breweries, decent bookstores, indie theatre, great coffee, comedy club, museums, and tons happening on campus. Since Michigan is such a huge university and close to Detroit, it draws a lot of interesting events and people to Ann Arbor.

Detroit is a little far to go to every weekend just to just hangout (especially since 1L is extremely busy), but not hard to get to for concerts or events. Depending on traffic and where you're going, it'd be about 35-45 minutes.

I'm not a huge fan of the BigTen sports culture, but it's not as bad at the law school as other parts of the university and I knew what I was getting into. Feel free to message me if you have specific questions!

Is the lawyers club a good choice for housing? Michigan is one of my top choices for next year and it looks like I should apply for the lawyers club really early if I want it. It seems like a good price and it would be nice not to have to look for housing on my own, but I don't want to go if it's too much like a dorm. I'll turn 30 during 1L and I'm done with dorms.

LC is amazing, and I think you'd be foolish to live anywhere else (barring family or dietary restrictions or severe social anxiety). It's nothing like a dorm, as you have your own washroom and can take food to go, etc. I think the LC is probably one of the best things about Michigan Law, as you're like 2 mins away from class and really get to know your classmates. Extremely convenient, and it's nice to live in such a beautiful building right in the Quad.

PM for more details. Lots of 30+ folks here (almost all the LLMs, e.g.).

Splurge for the premium room upgrade. It is so worth it because the other units are way too small for an average sized human. And you get a wardrobe for suits too.

Everyone complains about the size of the regular rooms. Don't let that be you!

If anyone has a torts outline for Clark or any old practice exams that would be great! He's currently visiting at my school and we only have 2 practice questions

How long do Michigan professors usually take to get grades back? Before/after New Years?
