Thanks!
I went to Michigan undergrad and leased a place from CMB for two years... they were fantastic! no complaints! I'd also recommend campus realty (campusrealty.com)... I lived in one of their houses my senior year, and signed a lease with them again for next year!
go blue.

Comcast is expensive but I might get it next year. I have AT&T DSL right now, and while it's extremely cheap ($15 a month, free router), it's rather slow. Normal Youtube videos take forever to load. TV would also be nice to have, and U-Verse isn't available where I'm at.

This. My Comcast cable is about 10 times faster than a friends DSL...I've tested it. Also, AT&T just imposed data caps yesterday on their unlimited plans...something like 150Gb per month but still.

I'm thinking about renting a nice, 2 or 3 bedroom house in Burns Park or the Old West Side: $1,300-$1,800. What are the odds that I will be able to find summer sub-letters? Is it likely or unlikely? Is it a complete crapshoot, or if is successfully finding a sub-letter correlated to the effort the sub-lessor puts forth?

Complete crapshoot and unlikely. Everyone downtown is subletting and even those places don't fill up. For example, by this point in the year people are offering places for like $300 a month...and I'm seeing the same ads over and over so people aren't biting.

Ah, everyone just calls them the 411 Lofts. I know someone who lived there last summer. They liked the room but didn't get along with their roommates at all. (They were really nice when she visited...said they'd take her to grocery store, etc...then once she moved in they ignored her. Then the person she sublet from insisted on moving back in a week before the lawyer's club was ready.) Moral...make sure your sublet is in writing... Make sure you tour and meet them...

Is there a walkable grocery store? Has anyone tried a grocery delivery service? I'm considering getting one of these:

Thoughts?
+1 for near Division and Packard for me.

There is nothing in walking distance for a dog. Look at Woodbury or Harbor House. I live in HH and love it. Both are a short (free) bus ride to school. <20-25 minutes.

Would you go to Michigan at sticker and if you have no ties to Southern California could it get you big law there?

I have questions about JD/MA programs at Michigan, specifically with a MA in Modern Middle Eastern and North African Studies. Here:
http://www.law.umich.edu/curriculum/dua ... grams.aspx
Are there many law students that do these dual programs? How does admissions view applicants applying to dual degree programs (do they even care?). I also read this TLS article
http://www.top-law-schools.com/introduc ... egree.html about JD/MA and overall the tone seemed pretty negative. It said that some (employers) consider JD/MA like two "half" degrees - any thoughts on this?
Basically I'm curious to hear any insight about Michigan's JD/MA middle east studies programs (or MA programs in general). Thanks!

I am from SoCal, Michigan has a very good rep here, at least with the lawyers of whom I have acquaintance. I think you would do fine, there's a pretty good alumni base. The lawyers I work with that went to UCLA are jealous of me for getting into Michigan and would have attended there.

I just ordered a new computer, but I'm not going to actually recieve it till after the first week of classes. Does the University loan out laptops to students? I looked around a few UMICH pages and did a few google searches but did not find anything. If I'm without a laptop for the first week of class it is not the end of the world...right?

Hi there,
I'm living and working in Beijing right now and have become even more positive that I want to work and live outside of the US when I graduate law school. (Not necessarily in China) Can anyone tell me anything about what it's like to chase law jobs abroad after graduation? I know U of M is lauded as a super-international school but I'd love to hear some first-hand accounts!

I believe it covers this on the lease, which you should have been emailed earlier today.

As far as I know, only during finals. Some classes don't allow laptops at all. You'll be fine to go a week without one.
