Anyone have any predictions as to when the most recent round of acceptances will hear about $$?

do people respond to the faculty emails? Got one and thought it was cool, but I don't really have anything to say in reply.

I don't respond to any of the emails from faculty or students. I don't think they expect you to reply either.

Baird is awesome. One of my favorite profs from a first year full of good ones.

How do people plan on getting from the airport to campus for ASW? Cabs mostly, or is public transit easy to use?

If you're going public transit route, easiest ways to get to campus are:

From Midway: 55 bus runs straight from Midway to Hyde Park, takes about 45m-1h
From O'Hare: Blue line to the loop then the 6 bus to Hyde Park, takes about 1h30m. Sucks, but the taxi fare can run close to $50 for that distance.

Apologies if this is superfluous - I don't know if they give you guys these instructions or whatnot.

It's not expected, but it's cool if you do. I mean students volunteer to e-mail y'all so it's not like we're annoyed to do it or anything.

I appreciate this...can you just pay cash directly on the buses?

Yes, but bring coins because you can't get change.

There should be a machine in front of the train stops where you can get a CTA pass. I would suggest doing that since you'll probably take public transit at some point. Or I suggest that you do to get a sense of the city.

Thanks for the advice! It looks like they have a bus to take us downtown to the subway hub on Saturday, but we are on our own for getting there on Thursday.

Fyi if you do cash the bus is $2.25 and it doesn't give change. I only had a $10 one time and the bus driver smiled sadistically and said i'm welcome to pay with that.

Any idea how long it will take to get from downtown to O'hare on Saturday afternoon? I'm trying to pick a flight time.

I would budget like two hours right now. I think the last two stops are closed down because a train driver crashed into the O'Hare escalator. So I think you have to take a shuttle to the second or third blue line stop. If you can afford it I might take a cab but they get pricey.

Thanks Mal. I'll pick a later flight time just to be on the safe side.

Around half an hour and $25-30, you'll hit some rush hour traffic

45m-1h+, traffic shouldn't be too bad at that time of day but you never know with the Dan Ryan

Another suggestion is to take a airport shuttle from O'hare. They'll take you directly to Uchicago and it's cheaper than a cab. I think it's ~$20. They also won't take as long as public transit and your don't have to transfer.

Is there a specific shuttle service that you would recommend?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
