This is far too optimistic. I lived there for a year, that was my bus stop. In the mornings in the winter it sometimes took 45 minutes or more to get to school. Part of the problem is that the 143 would be full half the time by the time it got to me, and when I got on one, it would take almost 20 minutes just to get on lake shore drive because of traffic on Fullerton.

When the 143 isn't running, which is almost always, taking the 151 means I would take 25-35 minutes to get to school, and I might walk out my door sometimes and find that a 151 isn't coming for a while.

If I wanted to get to school in 20 minutes I needed to take a cab.

People who want to live that far north of school can do okay taking the 146 by being north of Belmont, but otherwise living on the red line is the way to go.

I am considering taking out the additional loan for a new laptop. From what I have read, there should be an additional 2k loan in Caesar that we can accept/decline for this purpose. I do not see an additional loan nor do I see anything about a laptop in the estimated expenses that would be covered by the loans offered thus far.

I thought that instructions for this may be sent later. Per the pre-matriculation guide, if we wish to use NU's notebook program we have to make arrangements this month. Do I have to pay out of pocket first?

Thanks.

Correct. If you google "northwestern law laptop loan" you can probably find it. If all else fails email Zachary Weber and ask him.

Eta: looking at the website (http://www.law.northwestern.edu/facilities/it/notebook/) it does not seem that form is linked to. Call those number at the bottom imo.

ill also add, since loans take forever to disburse, you'll probably want to buy it sooner and put it on a CC or something. When i bought mine last year Apple had a barclays card you could sign up for that was like zero interest for a year (and might have knocked some money off the purchase price, i dont remember). So if you're cash strapped doing this and chopping up the credit card are an option for the initial purchase. You can just pay it off when the loans come through.

Dell had the same thing. I got a Dell preferred account or something that was zero interest (I forget how long). But yeah I made minimum payments on it all the way 'till January loans and then paid off the whole thing with no interest.
Also got $150 dell gift card for the purchase.

Thanks for the help.

Just got a new credit card to cover initial expenses until loans disburse. I'll probably end up going that route.

New poll up! I'll run a new one every couple weeks just for kicks. Old poll results will be posted in the OP at the bottom.

Looks like the previous poll has folks either already in Chicago or showing up a week or two from orientation.

Again, let me know if you want to see something in the OP and I'll try and make it happen.

That recommended laptop program has excessive requirements. You can do just fine on a sub $600 laptop. Also there's an apple deal online somewhere right now, if you're intent on getting a MacBook.

you should get an email notifying you it's ready to view and then you have to log on through ceasar. i don't know if that email went to my northwestern email account or my regular one because i set up the northwestern one to forward to my regular inbox. either way, you will receive a notification from the school.

So far, I have 3 spots filled, 9 left. It would be a good way to meet some TLSers in person before the semester starts. Post or message me if you are interested.
C/o '16 did this with resounding success. Even though I loss $20 :(

I checked my financial aid package yesterday, and it said I received a grant from an "outside agency scholarship." I didn't apply for any outside agency scholarships, so I'm wondering if it's a mistake. Did this happen to anyone else or does anyone else know what this is about? Thanks!

2L here. You will have no shortage of classmates at Axis (heck, I'm still here till November). The proximity to school is simply outstanding, especially in the winter.

The new pool/garden/gym area is pretty sweet, and the sundeck will be awesome when it's done too. The only annoyance is that there are only four elevators for the entire building, and if one or more of them break (which is common because construction workers use them shamelessly), it can be a 20-30 minute wait to squeeze into one of the remaining cars. Let me know if you have any specific questions about living here!

I'll be living there. It seemed like availability was pretty limited when I signed my lease, so I'm happy I got in!

I just started looking for housing, since I just got admitted as a transfer. How do you go about getting these apartments? And how hard are they to get ? What's the price range?

Axis was one of the ones I toured, along with a couple others. I ended up jumping on McClurg's WL in April and they found me a studio (a style I liked) for ~$1450/mo in mid-June. I don't know the turnaround times if you hopped on a WL now.

Go check out some of the posts in the Facebook group...there are some contacts that helped folks out. Also, check out the "Ask a NU 1L/2L..." thread. Good data there as well!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
