I used Hotwire and chose River North - Magnificent Mile as the neighborhood (which is close by) and ended up getting the Sheraton for $75/night.AAJD2B wrote:Where are folks staying for ASW? These hotels are not cheap. I am not trying to spend over $150/night. I want to be in town for 4 days/3 nights and even with the NU discount, prices are expensive.

There's no way you should have to pay that much. I stayed at the Hilton Chicago not too long ago for $97 per night. It's a little bit of a hike from there to Northwestern but the money saved would seem worth it.AAJD2B wrote:Where are folks staying for ASW? These hotels are not cheap. Anyone have any idea as to when we can expect to hear about financial aid and/or scholarship packages?

I stayed at the Hotel Allerton about a block away for my interview. It was a suite with a small living room. I think it was somewhere around 120/night.

Re: Northwestern Class of 2017
Inn of Chicago and Red Roof Inn are two nearby cheaper alternatives (I haven't checked prices recently since I, well, live here). Inn of Chicago is nicer and I have stayed there in the past. It was fine (small rooms, older building, but updated rooms and clean etc.).
I know a fair number of people who paired up with another TLSer to share a room in past years. No murders resulted.
You can request to stay with a current student. Not everyone who requests will get a place, though.

Re: Northwestern Class of 2017
Following this idea, I'm going to be getting a room Thursday/Friday/Saturday night. I haven't booked anywhere yet but I'd be more than willing to share a room since the travel stipend won't even fully cover airfare. Anyone interested can PM me. No murderers please.rinkrat19 wrote:Inn of Chicago and Red Roof Inn are two nearby cheaper alternatives (I haven't checked prices recently since I, well, live here). I was admitted 2/5 and still don't have it. They send them out in batches apparently, and they were sending them out about once a week but they haven't done a batch in quite some time now.wojo98 wrote:Anyone admitted 2/12 receive their welcome packet yet? Asking for a friend.

Don't know if this has been discussed already, but travel stipend info has now been posted! Looks like a maximum of $200 for reimbursement, specific details here:

Attended the admit dinner in SF last night. I was very impressed by the alumnae/i (what they're doing and they themselves), and I was even more impressed by the admits. We rock.

Was the attire generally business casual, as you mentioned before? Going to LA dinner tomorrow night.whereskyle wrote:Attended the admit dinner in SF last night. I was very impressed by the alumnae/i (what they're doing and they themselves), and I was even more impressed by the admits. We rock.

Re: Northwestern Class of 2017
Has anyone gotten any mail on their NU email account? or used their Net ID for anything? The email I received (on my personal gmail) made it sound really really urgent that I set up these accounts, but I've received nothing on email, and don't know what I'm supposed to be doing with Net ID. I assume we won't use these until orientation, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on anything.

ended up spending a bit more on a hotel than I had orginally planned, I figure it'll balance out and i'll save money on taxis if I stay walking distance from the law school
most people will probably going out every night to restaurants/bars, right?

I am hoping to start oiling my law student mode engine by freeloading on food from receptions at the law school. Airfare isn't going to be cheap for me.californiauser wrote:ended up spending a bit more on a hotel than I had orginally planned, I figure it'll balance out and i'll save money on taxis if I stay walking distance from the law school

P.S. Glad to see you'll be coming. Have you registered for Diversity Day?

Hey Northwestern, it's not cool to send an anxious 0L an email with "scholarship confirmation" in the subject line.
I almost pooped.
