Looking forward to getting sections Friday/Monday. I'd say I'm hoping a lot of TLSers are grouped together, but word on the street is we all finish above median, so screw you guys

Mario Villa said they should have them Aug 1st. That's when we should be able to get our @law.utexas.edu email too! Which, let's be honest, might just be the coolest thing ever.Attax wrote:

I think just a directory. And for professors to be able to see your face when they call on you in class. It just says "Administrative Purposes" so that's helpful

They give profs a photo roster of their class.

That's why I decided to look so smug in mine. They wouldn't recognize me in class if I were smiling in the photo!BVest wrote:They give profs a photo roster of their class.

Re: Texas Class of 2017
Hi there!
First time living on my own so apologies if these are really obvious things. I have an apartment but they told me to bring a few things when I go to pick up my keys including the declarations page of my renters insurance and my electric account number. Questions: what type of renters insurance do you have? Is there a particular company you recommend or is it all the same? And to set up my electric account number... what is the local electric company?
One more thing - anyone up for an ikea roadtrip?

I think renters insurance is pretty much the same anywhere, just make sure your coverage is enough for them (they usually specify a minimum amount of coverage). You can find companies that just do renters insurance (I used one of those in the past, was totally fine). You can also usually get it through big companies like State Farm, Progressive, etc.ojala wrote:Hi there!

I recommend Bounce Energy if they service the part of Austin you live in. Unfortunately as far as I know most people have to be serviced by City of Austin utilities. They suck and have a bunch of dumb extra charges.

I've actually had fantastic experiences with CoA Electric while I've lived here, granted the bills weren't in my name but anytime emergencies came up they were pretty fast. There was that huge storm last october that knocked a tree onto my house and killed our power. They were super backed up, but worked 24/7 and at around 3AM came out and fixed it and did it so quietly I didn't even wake up.

If you have a car, call your car insurer or go on their website and see if they offer renters insurance. Sometimes you can get a discount that way. But sometimes you definitely cannot, so be sure to compare their "discounted" rate to someone else's premiums.ojala wrote:Hi there!

AustinEnergy.com is the city-owned utility.

I got about a thousand quotes for both renters and auto insurance; Travelers was by far the cheapest renter's (~$10/Mo) and Geico was by far the cheapest auto (< $40/Mo). HTH

With renter's insurance, you can still get riders for expensive single items/groups of items, right? I somehow don't think they'll cover my laptop and all my photography gear without some kind of add-on coverage.Will_McAvoy wrote:I got about a thousand quotes for both renters and auto insurance; Travelers was by far the cheapest renter's (~$10/Mo) and Geico was by far the cheapest auto (< $40/Mo). Yes, but you probably won't need any scheduled item coverage. For jewelry, they often categorize the limits (i.e. $2000 max per item but $5,000 max per all jewelry) without scheduling, but I haven't come across a policy that does the same for photo equipment. And if the policy you're quoted is say max $2000/item and you have a couple lenses which are worth $2200, it's probably not worth it to schedule.
When we were renting, we were scheduled for my wife's engagement ring and that was it.
