For application tips check out Mike Spivey and Peg Cheng. They're both exceptionally helpful people!

You guys think there is a higher chance of me getting in with an October application (as soon as I get my LSAT score) then there is with upped stats in a late December application. If that's what you guys believe, you probably know more about it then me.

What goes with the application? Just the usual?

If I got in, my summer next year would consist of nothing but booze, so when I visit austin hopefully one of you delightful people can accommodate me!

They're just not going to reject you with that LSAT as an in-stater (remember, they are required to take 65% of the class from Texas, so big in-state LSATs are at a premium).

Get your application finalized the day it opens -- don't wait for your October retake. If you get it in right away your preliminary scholarship offer will arrive around the holidays, and if you do get your grades and LSAT up, you have an extra opportunity right away to ask for a better scholarship (but be clear to you're not making a "matching request"). If you can raise your GPA senior year from 3.2 to ~3.6 (about exactly what I did, too), that gives you another round of negotiating capital around deposit time, and that should create better options for your matching request, which you'll want to submit right around the final deadline.

As an in-state dude, no, you don't need to do anything special. Just don't present any glaring flaws, of course.

For sure on drinks.

I assumed it was based on EFC on FAFSA simply because it is not merit-based, nor is it administered through the law school, but I'm actually not sure now that I think about it. It just doesn't seem like the university would give away unnecessary money if not based on need. I got a $750 grant for summer tuition too (doing an internship for credit), which was nice!

I know one person in this group asked about it to admissions, and they said the bold is pretty much the case.

I know this has been discussed already, but I was trying to look at my grant information again but its no longer on CASH.

Is it possible to look at it, or does it disappear forever?

You definitely have a steep uphill battle but I don't think you are totally fucked. I'd put it at a 6-7. You need to work your ass off during the OCI process with interview prep, and knowing everything you possibly can about the firms. I assume you are looking to stay in TX? If so, I would focus on Houston/Dallas (pick one) and not even waste my time with Austin (it's nearly impossible to land a gig here). Feel free to PM me if you want to know anything else.

Edit: Just realized you are a 0L. My b, I think the above advice holds if that's where you end up after 1L.

I want to say sections are released August 1st, but I may be making that date up.

Edit: "We wait until August 1 to divide the class into sections", from a rising 1L newsletter sent out.

I think it would be 2016 who would have questions related to the decline period.

Car. I had planned to also buy a pass for the San Jacinto garage if walking or riding the bus was not an option.

Hyde park, and red river north of Dean Keeton are good areas to check out. You could also think about getting a realtor to help out. They're free and I always had success using them in undergrad and 1L year.

IMO a pass for the San Jac garage is unnecessary and insanely expensive. What I did 1L and 2L was buy a C-pass and then walk from the C-lot. It's about a 8 min. walk and as long as you get there before 9:30 or so you will find a spot.

I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere but what gym do law students have access to, and how close is it to the law school?

You can get in at Gregory or the Rec. I want to say they're around a 10 min. walk from the school. Maybe a bit less. Both are over by DKR.

But I'd def recommend the Rec out of these options.

Trying to decide between a couple places on Red River and a place in Seton Condos...none of the places seem to have any reviews online and I can't go check the places in person anytime soon. Is Red River (3200-3400) an okay area? Seems very close to the law school (0.3 miles) so I was surprised the places my realtor showed me were still on the market.

Red River's fine but make sure you inspect the apartments there very carefully. I had a few friends who lived there and they absolutely hated their apartments...one of the apartments i remember was called something casa something.
