It depends on how much nightlife you're talking about being near. If you're talking about being in the heart of it all, yeah, commuting from downtown might be a hassle (although the 7 and 10 and maybe other buses would work well). But if you just mean a selection of cool neighborhood bars and restaurants, you might want to look on Manor Road just east of the Y with Dean Keeton (which will be walkable, bus-served, and young), Hyde Park (near Duval & 45th) or North Loop (53rd/North Loop).
Whatever you do, don't go south of the river. It's bad enough trying to cross the river when you control your own transportation.

Yeah I live in Cherrywood now (the area N of Dean Keaton BVest described) and really like it. Many of us are going to be in N Campus/Hyde Park but this late you'll be hard pressed to find quality places for good prices.

You're really gonna try to foot it in Texas without a car?
It's probably more expensive to live downtown than it is to live a few miles away with a decent car.
Anyways, I got a really good deal on a studio that's walking/biking distance from campus, so I'm content. Takes less than 10 minutes to drive downtown anyways, and it's not like I can't use public transportation from where I am.

All of this is true. I'd hate not having a car here, although I know some people doing it. And downtown is expensive as fuck, you'd probably pay less for an apt closer to campus and with a car payment.

Do we have any word on what the incoming class size will be? The last two years were just above 300, and the Facebook group currently has 253 members (although i'm sure this number isn't completely representative).
Any thoughts/speculation?

The word I heard was they were holding that line. Notch above 300 and add a fuck ton of transfers.

I met a prof for lunch and he said the benefit of UT is you'll be in a class of 300 with a faculty and resources of 500 so I'd imagine they're holding around 300.

I wonder if that means we can get two lockers? I'd prefer a separate food/beverage holding area.

Moved down to Austin this past weekend. My wife started her new job this week, so I've been setting up our apartment and exploring a little. So far I've ate at Torchys and had Amy's ice cream, both are great.

Don't get too excited bro, as you'll probably get let down. To paraphrase a legendary 1L, it's the ugliest of the top law schools.

There's like a new addition with a courtroom in it that's real nice. The cafe area has been redone and seems nice enough. It's your generic 1970s state campus building though.
ETA: The patio on the back is real nice, and I would say it's a relatively pretty school from the outside.

I still think it is the nicest building on campus. Honestly the classrooms would be nice if they'd just update those ugly seats! The new section is absolutely GORGEOUS and modern though. Everything else though, expect your low expectations to be underwhelming already.
Although, compared to UMN this looks like the white house.
