The way everyone talks about it, yes, you do. The link below talks about it a little more, but you can graduate early, take extra classes and graduate on time, or take a semester off to do... something. I actually talked to a 3L friend of mine who said that it's a big advantage for OCIs because you have completed 3 classes by the time you're signing up for them. You also are unlimited in your selection of electives for the winter semester. She did think, though, that some of the summer starters seemed pretty burned out by the end of the year (3 semesters is a lot without a significant break, and Michigan doesn't have very long breaks).

I would imagine that you only pay extra tuition if you opt to take an extra semester. TBH I'm a LITTLE confused how there could be "no concomitant heavier courseload later", if you actually graduate a full semester earlier, but I may be thinking about this incorrectly.

http://www.law.umich.edu/prospectivestu ... rters.aspx - "graduating early is the most frequent choice"

EDIT: Also, there's the whole page about contacting current students on the admitted students page. none of them are listed as summer/fall starters, but if you really want to ask those burning questions, shoot one of them an email and if they weren't summer start, I'm sure they'd forward you to a friend who was.
I'm a summer starter graduating on Friday, I'm happy to answer questions (probably by PM or maybe in the Michigan students taking Qs thread, to not derail this one).

Most summer starters (in fact, all that I know of who aren't doing dual degrees) graduate early. There's not a heavier course load later because they make each of your summer doctrinal classes 5 credits instead of 4, so you still get a 13 credit term (with legal practice).

After graduating, a lot of people stick around Ann Arbor to study for the Bar. After that, some start work early, some travel, some just hang out in Michigan, some go home. I for one plan to enjoy my 8 month vacation.

Anyyy clue what they'll be asking during the Darrow interview? I know this is the first time they're interviewing, but if anyone else has any idea or wants to speculate, that'd be great! Thanks.

A casual 3.5 weeks. Don't hold your breath.
Are talking about the binder with just the acceptance letter and a flash drive? I got that 2 days after I got accepted but nothing since.

That's what I was talking about, I haven't heard about any other mailings from anyone.

Per my friend who is going to mich too, "Yo, I emailed admissions about the preview weekend and they said the link to register will be added eventually- they'll let us know when it's up"

Also, checking in. Been lurking around this site for a bit, also figured it was time to drop in. Went to Michigan for undergrad too so if anyone has questions about ace deuce or umich in general feel free to pm me.

Yeah, a bunch of us (like 3 or 4 so far) have gotten Dean's Scholarships. We discussed it in the applicant's thread which was a bit silly now that I think of it. Check ASW if you haven't since yesterday, something might be up.

So I just got the hard copy of my scholarship offer and apparently it precludes any need-based aid and they claim that they won't even consider raising the amount to compete with other schools. :x

If this is really my final aid offer, I think that I'll be withdrawing my acceptance shortly. Has anyone else (Dean's Scholars) received this notice?

Edit: though, for those who were wondering earlier, I can confirm that the amount listed online is yearly (half of it will be applied each semester) so you should multiply whatever is listed online by three for your total award amount.

I will receive my letter when I head back to school in a week so I'll let you know. I'll be very surprised if the letters vary at all though.

This is disappointing to me as well, even though I am reasonably happy with the initial offer. This will be something I will watch closely throughout the cycle to see if they are just posturing because Michigan w/ $$ will be near the top (if not the top) of my list.

Hey congratulations everyone on the acceptances! So couple things:

I remember reading somewhere that Michigan's financial aid process is very standardized. So, if you have this LSAT and this GPA then that means you will get a predetermined amount of money. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, does anyone have any insight on the Darrow process? I think my numbers are probably right on the border of being invited to interview, and I would like to get a feel for what the timeline for the process is, so I can know when I officially can stop hoping for an invite :)

They are changing the way they do scholarships this year so who knows how things will work out.
