I did too, but that still means class five days a week :(

Do they take attendance or something? I have classes five days a week as well, but I'm taking a class taught by a grad student who I'm cool with and who lets me miss classes for law school stuff, a class taught by some old guy who podcasts all of his lectures and gives out 90+% "A"s, and an intro level psych course for which I may or may not attend over half of the lectures. I haven't utilized the pass/fail option at all thus far, so I'm going to abuse it this Spring :D .

Unfortunately, I have one more math class to finish out my minor :( but I've emailed all the profs and hopefully I'll be able to miss class. I really want to be able to go to the full ASW and then go straight to Chi's, I think it would be really helpful :)

So it looks like I'll only be able to make it to one day of this weeks ASW because of work, so what day would you guys recommend? I'm thinking Wednesday because it's longer. Also... meet up? I wish there was a FB group so it would be easier to set up.

Columbia emailed me the housing PID, but I am still having issues making an account for housing (i.e. when I try to sign up, I am told that the code is invalid/the application isn't open yet). Anyone else having these issues?

Booked my flight for april's ASP.

To the people going to the one aftertomorrow: anyone manage to crash with current students (student accomodations on the website) or are y'all staying in a hotel?

Hello!

Excited to see some of you at this week's Admitted Students program!

Quick question though: does anyone have any insight on when it would be best to start negotiating scholarships? I missed out on the Hamilton and Butler, but I just found out that I got a Ruby from Chicago. Does this have any sway at Columbia? Should I wait until they make an initial aid offer to send a letter?

Any help would be much appreciated!

So I was reading through the last few pages regarding financial aid. Was it required to submit the financial aid questionnaire to be considered for merit-based aid? I don't expect any need-based aid. I submitted FAFSA and need access, but dropped the ball on the March 1 deadline for the questionnaire and tax forms. Did I shoot myself in the foot?

Nah, it's a soft deadline. I am also waiting for tax documents from my parents.

i just posted a poll, to help gauge when admitted students are going to be visiting!

getting this email about our housing applications just made everything so much more real.

edit: oh, and those who are visiting today & tomorrow - i'd love your thoughts on everything & anything re: columbia!

Decently enjoyed. A few good panels (the PI one in particular, and it seemed clear they were trying to emphasize their shift to a PI focus), and some seriously debaucherous after hours drinking events. Accepted students were around 100, and mostly on the younger side, judging from looking at a lot of nametags. Columbia students were genial, and positive on their school. Many seemed to have made the same Columbia/NYU vs UVA/Duke decision that I'm going to make in the coming months.

+1 to all the above. Had a great time. Was pleasantly surprised with UAH pricing/size (by manhattan standards at least). Definitely felt them actively pushing the PI angle.

Could the two of you who mentioned the PI-focus talk a bit more about that? I'm curious what sorts of things gave you the vibe / how sincere you felt it was / etc.

One of the three major panels was on Public Interest opportunities (they had two former grads and two faculty members speak; also, one of the current students on the first panel about "Connections to Practice" also spoke about PI), and they emphasized specifically the wealth of connections/resources, the LRAP program, and the individual attention received by people interested in PI. One of the arguments seemed to be that, while less people are specifically interested in pursuing PI than at a place like NYU (although apparently the number of students interested in PI is growing), that actually means that the students who are interested will have more options/opportunities and will be able to build strong relationships with professors and other faculty in PI fields that can help connect them with PI organizations/job placements. They also talked extensively about the externship and clinic programs, and the spring break international "caravans" (PI-focused trips) sponsored by Columbia.

I definitely felt that the push for PI was sincere - it clearly is an area that Columbia is very consciously trying to expand.
