Hi everyone! Congratulations on getting into CLS!

Columbia 1L here, letting you know about an awesome Mardi Gras party at Avenue (a club in the Meatpacking) on Thursday, March 6, a.k.a. the Thursday you'll all probably be in town attending ASW!

$20 (very soon going up to $25) includes admission and access to an hour of OPEN BAR from 9-10 pm! Plus masks, beads, and other favors.

This would be a great chance to meet CLS students in a more relaxed atmosphere. Buy your tickets online here: http://hstc.co/1mAhhO2 or here: http://hstc.co/1br5uMZ

Hope to see you there!
(I promise we won't start spamming the thread, but this will be a cool event. You should be there!)

The person who replied to my e-mail recommended either faxing or mailing the documents for security purposes. I plan on faxing mine. Let me know if you need the contact info!

Does anyone have any idea where the CUID/PID number can be found?

Don't think we're issued one until we enroll- but it's not required for the FAQ anyway- that page is only for continuing students.

Thanks, but for the housing application it is required unless i'm reading this incorrectly.

Ahh, haven't even looked at that yet. Have you enrolled yet?

They will be mailing us our PIDs in a few weeks. I'm guessing te same goes for our CUIDs. They are going to send them out in a big wave.

Woot! Travel subsidy form submitted and approved in the same day. 10 points for Columbia.

From the housing website:
New Students: Login information is typically sent with acceptance materials, along with your PID number. If you do not have a login code, you can obtain one from the Housing Liaison of your school.
I'm so glad we're in the same boat, otherwise I'd be really confused.

I definitely won't be able to qualify for needs-based aid because of my parents' income, but I called the CLS Financial Aid Office today and they said that they don't have any way that I can apply for merit only aid, or any system that matches merit-based offers from peer schools. Is this the general consensus? I received a $62.5K Dean's Scholarship from NYU, and would really like to leverage it into some $ at CLS (otherwise there doesn't seem to be any reason for me to even consider going to Columbia over NYU with that money)....

Thanks so much! This looks like a great opportunity to meet some people and get a sense of the social life at CLS! Any other 0L's interested in going?

They don't necessarily "match" offers from peer schools, but you can certainly leverage your Deans Scholarship for more $ at CLS. Basically, there's no gurantee that they will match any other CCN offer dollar for dollar, but that $62.5k (congrats btw!! I'm jealous :D ) will put you in a great position to get $ or $$ from CLS.

I called their office and they said that they would send out the housing application log-in info (PIDs, etc) in the next few weeks. They haven't sent them out to anyone yet, but plan on sending them out within the next two weeks or so.

Hopefully their campus costs are like NYUs, otherwise I may just end up getting a room in Harlem for 700-750. Decent space, a bike ride away from Columbia.

Thanks for sharing the information! I figured as much from your previous post, which is why I'm relieved to have this thread. Otherwise, I'd be freaking out: "Everybody knows what's going on but me! Columbia doesn't really love me!"

Haha no problem. I've felt that way about their fin aid process. I wish it was simpler like NYU's and UVA's.

Are you not considering their subsidized housing? Living in MSH at around $1000 per month and in the same building as other law students seems great to me. The NYU dorms are so expensive, but I'd live in one if I end up choosing NYU. I'm kind of viewing the difference in prices of NYU dorms and CLS' UAH as a free scholly because it could bring CLS COL down 6000-7000 per year compared to NYU, all things equal.

I am. I have to weigh it together. I may just do it for my 1L so I don't have to think about it and then move out 2L.

Anyone have an idea what the dress code is for the Admitted Student Program (also for NYU, since I'm combining them)? I'd rather not be business casual if I don't have to be, but I also don't want to be underdressed compared to everyone else. Thanks!

I'd say it's a non-issue; however you're comfortable. I'm paraphrasing another TLSer from a different thread here, but I thought his/her advice was pretty appropriate: dress like you're meeting your girlfriend's parents for the first time for dinner at Cheesecake factory. I read this as casual, but sharp.

Hi everyone! So excited about Columbia! I will be attending the April ASW.

I don't know if this has been answered already or if it is discussed in a different thread, but I'm wondering if trying to negotiate aid with Columbia is best before or after their initial financial offer.

I have a near median LSAT and way above 75% GPA, so I'm not sure how much money Columbia will consider giving me. I received the Dean's scholarships from NYU (37.5k) and Michigan (90k) and have been accepted to Harvard. Should I try to leverage both of these and attach my NYU offer to the email I send, or should I wait to see what Columbia offers me first? Could I use Harvard to get more money at NYU and then email Columbia? My top two choices right now are Columbia and Harvard, and I may consider Columbia with money because of some personal reasons. Also, does anyone know when offers usually go out? I'm wondering if I have enough time to negotiate with NYU first.

Congrats to all the admits and can't wait to see some of you at ASW! :)

CLS' soft deadline for all fin aid docs is March 1 and they will start reviewing applications March 15th. I'm not sure how long their review process is, but I imagine it would take a week or longer for their first offers to be released.

You can use NYU scholarships to leverage more money at CLS (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't) but Michigan's scholarship will harder to use. I think it would be best to wait for CLS' initial offer before you start negotiating. Also, leveraging H for more $ at NYU seems plausible to me but I'd like to hear other's thoughts.

By the way, congrats on your acceptances and $$! Seems like it's been a great cycle for you.
