I assume you should send it to the same address as the Dean's Certification form:

Office of Admissions
Columbia Law School
Mail Code 4004
435 West 116th Street
New York, NY 10027-7297

You had to come all the way over to the Columbia thread to preserve my syntactical error for posterity as well.

Gotta preserve that Columbia/NYU rivalry.

let's dial this crosstown thing up to Jets vs. Sharks levels. summer is a good time for everybody to practice their synchronized snapping and pirouettes.

Tried that... unfortunately it said I could not use BBCodes... someone told me (don't remember who or when) that you can only do certain things, like embed videos, if you have made enough posts. Basically, you have to be active enough in the forums to have earned the right, is that accurate?

Something more on topic than my inability to properly embed youtube videos, I got my housing assignment yesterday! I will be in the 420 W. 116th building, anyone else?

that's a solid theory about not having enough posts.
I'm on 114th street, which hasn't gotten a shoutout yet as far as I can tell.
Google street view confirms window AC units aplenty.

Does anyone know how moving into apartments is supposed to work logistically?

I mean, the idea of driving up a U Haul and parking it right in front of my building for an hour like a boss while I unload furniture and boxes seems improbable at best, but I don't see any other way. The nearest parking lot or parking garage is way further away than I would be willing to carry a couch. Maybe I have a false impression of how busy streets are in New York because I have never been there and have never lived in a big city, but I somehow doubt that the streets close to campus housing are ever lightly trafficked enough that parking a U Haul on the street would not lead to a significant cluster fuck of a inconvenience and earn me the ire of everyone in NY on my first day in town.

Streets in NYC are clusterfucks at all times. You're just gonna have to double park like every other asshole on the planet. Don't worry about it.

ETA that street is pretty calm, you will be fine.

My housing app just got approved. How long does it typically take to get an assignment after it is approved?

It varies. It only took me 24 hours but I have heard others have waited much longer.

my email for being approved came in at noon, I got my assignment email on 4:30 that day...I don't know if this is typical, but I recommend getting your hopes up regardless.

Asked this on the "Ask a Student/Graduate" board already, but looking for more feedback. For people that live near Columbia, what cell phone service do you use? I am currently a Verizon subscriber, but my contract is almost up and I really would like to find a more affordable provider. Can anyone recommend another provider? Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile? Maybe even one of those little local providers? I don't need amazing reception all of the time, I just need something that won't drop my calls consistently. I used to have T-Mobile five or six years ago and I had to switch because the reception at my college was atrocious and I was dropping calls during phone interviews for internships. I heard they have gotten better. Any one?

I applied for law only housing but got an email today saying I was approved for UAH. Does that mean I didn't get a law only apartment? That would be a huge bummer since location matters way more than cost to me

I don't know. Did you apply for both Law School housing and UAH? It was possible to do that. If so, then you might still be eligible for Law School housing. That being said, some of the UAH apartments are really really close to the law school. On TLS there have been students placed in UAH on 114th street (2 blocks from law school and across the street from the main university library) and 116th street (across the street from the law school). So just because you get UAH doesn't mean you will be far away. Even 111th street isn't that far. I visited an apartment on 111th during ASW and found I was able to walk from the apartment to the law school in just under 10 minutes door to door.

I chose UAH as my third option so I'm really hoping that is the case. Yeah the options you mentioned are great, I just don't want to risk being in one of the farther UAH apartments. 111th is about the longest walk I'd be okay with. If not I'll have to try and appeal and be willing to pay a lot more a month to make it happen. I like walking, it's just the time spent walking to and from class/library that I'd like to avoid.

Worst case scenario, if you are farther than that, a good bike will do you wonders.

I have AT&T, and I've never had any problems in New York City. I've only been in the Columbia area a couple of times though (for ASD's and one other time), so not 100% sure about that exact area, although I don't recall having any issues.

I got the same thing. I'm pretty sure all housing, including law school only, goes through the UAH system, which is why you have to log in to the UAH portal to check the status of your app.
