Thanks! And if anyone's got some insight on the health insurance waiver that would be great too!zen wrote:Regarding vaccinations here you goHitchensian wrote:This is a bit random, but has anyone received any info about submitting documentation about vaccinations and/or info about being waived from the requirement to buy health insurance through Columbia because you're on your parents insurance?
I've heard nothing on either, but I'm under the impression that we need to submit paperwork on both of these matters.

being a law student, I feel the need to let people know I'm not a radio silence aspie shut-in...or at least appear so initially. maybe that's "uncool" or "square" of me, but everybody knows the real power struggle happens when you soak your dishes in the sink for two weeks and see what they do about it.tlsapp2017 wrote:Oops. Well I would hope that doesn't describe most of us, or else law school is going to be pretty miserableFuriousDuck wrote:"In the counterculture movements that started in the 1940s and took momentum in the 1960s a 'square' referred to someone who clung to repressive, traditional, stereotypical, one-sided, or 'in the box' ways of thinking."

failure to post youtube links will be held against you. there were also bonus points that could have been picked up for making a clever reference to American Psycho.FuriousDuck wrote:On law school exams, you don't lose points for including extraneous information as long as it's not incorrect, no?EquallyWrong wrote:credited response was "Hip to be Square" by Huey Lewis and the News.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Footnotes for the thread:
1. American Psycho - 8. "Hip to Be Square" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvBAEp3Znn4)
American Psycho (2000) starring Christian Bale, directed by Mary Harron (The Notorious Bettie Page) based on the novel, American Psycho (1991) by Bret Easton Ellis (Less than Zero/Twitter).
Elvis Costello, alluded to in the clip, recored the song Less than Zero in 1977, a title which would later be used by Ellis for his 1985 novel. Nick Hornby, another popular author, borrowed the title for his 1995 novel, High Fidelity, from another song by Costello. The tendency to take titles from Costello songs is humorously commented on by dry, verbose British author Will Self in this clip: Will Self - Favourite Characters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fb4rrLMals)

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
so reading the "ask a 1L thread" got me wondering, how many of you have a suit already?
I have a bunch of separates like blazers, pencil skirts, and slacks in various colors (navy, gray, black, maroon ect) but the suit I had from the beginning of college is too small now. I'm don't know if what I own is professional enough to get me through first semester until we start interviewing. Is it be too unconservative to wear something mismatched like this or this but in more muted colors and styles? Should I go get a charcoal skirt suit ASAP?
