Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Has anyone received the reimbursement for their travel expenses to ASW? Attended the first one in March and still haven't received. I'm sure CLS admissions has far more pressing matters to attend to at the moment, but was just curious to know if anyone had received a check yet.

Are you aiming for biglaw? You seriously can't get better chances outside of HYS than CLS. At least in NYC.LSAT9986 wrote:Checking in with Hamilton.
10% School funded rate at Columbia is pretty upsetting though. Still deciding.

Okay Columbia, if you are going to make your deposit binding, give me my financial aid already.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Has anyone here been successful negotiating their "financial aid" package? Also, I'm assuming there are people on here who have full tuition scholarships from a t-14. Anyone want to share their reasoning for still picking CLS with very little aid over the t14 scholarship? (particularly non BigLaw people)
Also, in response to someone up there, I haven't received my reimbursement yet either, and I went to the first ASW.

so does Columbia factor in need more than other schools (minus HYS)?
cause I was a little surprised by my offer.

In at H and S. CLS has been repping 10% school funded rate for almost two years now, though I see LST has recently reported a drop to 6.6%.

IKR? I was admitted by the skin of my teeth and they just gave me a pretty decent grant.Marshmallow wrote:so does Columbia factor in need more than other schools (minus HYS)?

I believe evidence points to them giving more for need-based than most other (non-HYS) schools.okok wrote:IKR? I was admitted by the skin of my teeth and they just gave me a pretty decent grant.Marshmallow wrote:so does Columbia factor in need more than other schools (minus HYS)?

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
Harvard and Stanford had nearly the same school funded % as CLS last year. In fact, CLS left far fewer students underemployed than harvard. Stanford is basically boss for getting everyone a job and they have weathered this recession remarkably, but for NY biglaw you can't top CLS - and I would include HS in that comparison.LSAT9986 wrote:Theopliske8711 wrote:Are you aiming for biglaw? +1. My financial aid track record with the NYC schools has been pretty abysmal! Not that I'm even remotely surprised. Withdrew. Congrats to those who've picked Columbia--amazing place, but I'm just not comfortable with paying sticker!fleurdelis2 wrote:Columbia just gave me $0 in grants. WTF

Same experience. They gave me the most money out of the t-14 outside of Gtown.Nonconsecutive wrote:I believe evidence points to them giving more for need-based than most other (non-HYS) schools.okok wrote:IKR? Re: Columbia Class of 2017
It's kind of terrifying to have to decide on a school without complete $$ information. When I called earlier this week, the FinAid offer said to send a copy of a scholarship offer letter from another school showing the deadline. I did, and when I called again today to confirm they received it earlier this week, they were just like "oh, we probably won't meet your deadline." I love Columbia, and I'd be delighted to be there, but I don't know at what cost...

I got my offer this morning via email and I'm really happy with it. It's roughly equivalent to all the offers I'd consider using for leverage, so I'm going to skip negotiations and just accept. Excited to be at CLS in August!

I got my financial aid package today and it's basically a Butler. Columbia was so incredibly generous, I'm like on the verge of tears I'm so happy. I'm committing today.

Thanks Scoobers :') From what I understand they are constant, it seems like the fin aid office sends some out every day, but I could be wrong.scoobers wrote:^congrats, moopness!

Checking in here after getting the admit email off the "Held" list just now.
Does anyone have an idea how financial aid/scholarships might work for someone like me that's been admitted for all of 15 minutes?
Thanks for any help!

Send your financial aid info ASAP, and just ask how long you think it will take, I guess.

Congrats! I was you last year and I think they got my financial aid package to me within a couple of weeks. I definitely knew within 3. I had already submitted the FAFSA and Need Access so it was a simple process.gta wrote:Checking in here after getting the admit email off the "Held" list just now.

QUick question for those who have committed: are we supposed to just send in the paper form filled out with the check enclosed? I'm kinda worried about snail mail but if that's what we gotta do then I have no choice I guess.

Re: Columbia Class of 2017
so.....
who is still waiting for financial aid, and when were you accepted? I heard back at the end of January.
I'm getting worried being among the last to hear re: money did not end well for some of my friends at other schools.
