Also, anyone doing the public service day? I'm trying to consider how drunk I'm getting the night before at City Tap House and if I'll want to be up at 8 the next morning. My undergrad orientation had a similar event, and I skipped it for similar reasons. Turns out I was like, the only person I know who didn't do it and I felt like such a tool.
About public service day I would not worry. Doesn't make a difference if you go or not, only point is to meet people. But if you don't want to do it people probably won't notice anyway and you definitely wouldn't feel like a tool.

I'm planning on RSVP'ing for most of the different options, too. Then again, I was never able to make an ASW, so having a few more chances to meet and get to know people sounds well worth it to me.

I made a facebook group just for TLS Penn students, particularly incoming 1Ls, so we can coordinate, meet each other etc. Kids are stuffy on the official class of 2017 because administration uses it, so I don't feel like anyone is getting to know each other. PM me if you're in!

Me too. I think it will be a great way to plan things without everybody being able to see it.

Are any of you all bringing SO to any of the events? Some of them seem pretty chill and I think it would be nice to get yor SO acclimaited with some of the stuff Penn is pitching. Also, the people I met at ASW who brought SO were equally involved during the events and them bringing a guest didnt seem to hinder their experience (assuming they brought a SO and not a parent lol).

I am assuming that you are living with the SO? If so, I think it makes a lot of sense to bring him/her.
Edited because I hate using them as a gender neutral pronoun.

I feel like if you do the yacht club itll be a mad dash to go back to your place, get ready, and still make it back in time for the constitution center. Then again, not sure if I wanna go to brunch and play lawn games in bus casual all day. Thoughts?

I signed up for the yacht club. Since they have done the yacht thing in the past, I would bet that they left us enough time to get ready for the dinner.

ya i was just a little worried about doing the yacht thing till say 3 or 4 and then going back to my place mid rush hour to get changed and make it to the constitution center on time. Overall though, cant wait to meet everyone.

Hey guys! I was admitted today via phone call! Does anyone how long should it be until I have access to ASW? On the status checker it says that the admitted student portfolio was sent out.

They'll email you with a username and password soon. I think I got it the day after I was accepted. Congrats!

Does anyone know if 1L classes allow laptops??
I'm just setting mine up , and it just occurred to me how horrible it would be if I couldn't take my laptop to class. My handwriting is...errrr...not great.
Also, anyone know if there's a dress code for the two main orientation days? I know Wednesday night is business casual, but I'm assuming we can wear jeans for the full day ones since they don't specify otherwise.

Depends on the section. I could use a laptop in zero of my core classes 1L fall. It's surprisingly not bad.
As for everything except the constitution center, wear what you please, as long as it's not sweats or something. And even then the only problem with that is we'd just wonder if you love yourself, but technically you'd be fine.

That laptop thing worries me though, I always figured law school required excessive note taking. Am I wrong about that?

Everything I've read says everyone takes too many notes anyway… It might not be a bad thing. It's like highlighting-- less is sometimes more.
