to be fair, there are places in rittenhouse square that are $1000 (check Greenzang.com) but they just aren't large and extravagant.

I plan on living in University City because I need space.

That's just rent. Not internet, not heat, not food, not parking...and you're still 33% over budget.

Unreal deception.

True COA is 100k per year.

I really hope this is a flame account after reading your post history as you come across as a mixture of entitlement and ignorance. That said, I believe the budget is for 9 months, and it's absolutely manageable in Philadelphia.

I hope that one of your other options is not practicing "unreal deception," but it seems that you have issues with all of them. Best of luck to you.

Ah yes - but where can you find a 9 month lease in Rittenhouse square? You can't. You're out for the full year.

Visited Penn today and had a great time  Warm, collegial atmosphere and I felt very welcome. I took a tour with current students and got some great info. Visited with financial aid and they offered me a fair scholarship, but it will probably have to increase for me to attend.

You sublet which is so easy in Philly. I sublet my crap apartment for way too much ( I was dumb for paying so much), so it can be done.

So that's the secret? Just visit and theyll actually give you the aid offer? ITS THAT SIMPLE?!?!?

Yeah, I was very surprised. I got the email this afternoon. I spoke with the director of admissions and she found me later and asked me to speak with financial aid. I really did love the friendly, home-like atmosphere of the university.

Debating making the drive and actually visinting now so I can negotiate aid. Seems this is the best way to actually get an answer

Maybe you're trolling but in case you are serious. You're totally wrong. You can get a studio for much less than 1k per month in Center City and even less if you have roommates. Try looking beyond luxury buildings. COL is based on 9 mos. but it easily stretches to a year when you add the summer funding. I've lived near Rittenhouse for 1L and 2L and been under the budget.

Who brings a car to a major city? If you want to keep your car live in West Philly or Manayunk.

Me. I've been admitted for many months and told them that I needed to know something by today for NYU except luckily I had the NYU deadline extended. Sad.

Called financial services and they told me that if I have any deadlines atm, I should make a decision with "no scholly from Penn" since they won't be released aid info until either the end of this week or next week.

Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. Penn was on the ball with the named scholarships, but I guess other merit aid is harder for them to sort out?

I'm lucky in that NYU pushed my decision deadline, so I don't have to make a decision until May 1st (CLS). But that sucks for those who can't wait. They are cutting it fantastically close, no doubt to make negotiations more difficult. I've already sent them my awards so I played my cards ahead of time (figure there is no real point in withholding, since they will make a decision based on those awards anyway).
