I hear you-- the sailing event is cutting it close. I will be at my place right near the law school so I don't think the 2-hr turnaround will be tough. It sounds like a good time. Probably the last good orchestrated-by-the-school time we'll have for a while.wlee1220 wrote:I'm going to do pretty much everything but the Phillies game (went to two this summer and I don't think I can stomach another one). I want to do the sailing day, but I am concerned about having enough time to get home, change and get over to the Constitution Center by 6. I am commuting from Jersey and traffic gets hectic on both sides of the bridge around that time.gobosox wrote:Anyone going to all the orientation events? (Possible poll?)
I am going through the list now and I would feel weird doing a scavenger hunt. There are also a lot of different dinner/lunch events… I do think I'm doing the Phillies game and the sailing day, as well as the first night Morris Fellow dinner (as my sponsor has been hawking that to me).
Thoughts?

That's my plan. I'm gonna buy a parking pass, but I'm going to also see how bad the commute is via train to 30th street station.goldenboy514 wrote:Gonna be doing same thing. First legal writing "assignment" is up on the orientation site. Looks like LRW is still P/F with 30% grabbing honors.

Saw that, too. Do we have access to that "Course Canvas" page they mention? I don't remember seeing anything about it, yet.AlwaysPlayTheFox wrote:First legal writing "assignment" is up on the orientation site. Looks like LRW is still P/F with 30% grabbing honors.

Re: UPenn Class of 2017
Really anxious to figure out what section I'm in…
Also, does anyone know where to find what books we need? The legal writing assignment posted has us reading a book, but it doesn't say more than the title. I'm interested to know if we can buy the old edition, etc. (I'm used to getting titles, authors, publication years, etc.)
Also, I logged onto the Canvas page and didn't have anything on there. Anyone experience something similar?

I checked all the Legal Practice Skills sections on the CourseFinder and they all listed the 2nd edition. I have no idea if there are any large differences between the 1st and 2nd though.gobosox wrote:

I couldn't find the course syllabus on the Canvas page yet either."A Lawyer Writes " by Coughlin, Malmud & Patrick

Anyone know how to know which hornbook to get? Or which outline to pair with which books? I am pretty lost here. I've often been told to wait until I get my professor, but none of these classes have recommended hornbooks or anything.

Also, does anyone know anything about "renting" books? I don't want a book with highlighting.

I'm also curious about this. I've seen people recommend certain ones to go with certain professors, but I don't know if there's any rhyme or reason to it and I'm hesitant.gobosox wrote:Anyone know how to know which hornbook to get? You don't need a hornbook, you need a commercial supplement, e.g. an Examples and Explanations. But you don't need any of this now. Wait until you get to school. You don't need a supplement until October at the earliest.
Buy your casebooks if you can get them ahead of time for cheap, but don't buy anything that's not required.

I'd like to read plain text explanations along with the cases as I go to help me understand it.

Can we get a new poll: What section are you in? It'd be interesting to find out how the TLS users are spread throughout the sections...
