Yeah, I rarely buy myself shirts in XXXL anymore so it's kind of nice to wear.Nonconsecutive wrote:Pfft, you earned that water bottle, use it like a baws. Could make for a very post-modern chic tablecloth...fivestarfolds wrote:Yeah, I rarely buy myself shirts in XXXL anymore so it's kind of nice to wear.Nonconsecutive wrote:Pfft, you earned that water bottle, use it like a baws. Edit: So what's the scoop with housing. I think I'm going to do Mercer 1L just to be near campus. Did they open up housing application yet?

Welp, NYU didn't increase my aid package (got the email on Friday), and I withdrew my application. Best of luck to everyone!

Now that I've done my research on NYU housing, I have just one question: Where will all the poors be living this fall?

I can have like a 55 min commute now Door to Door if I move in with my parents and live free at home. Worth it to pick a 30 min commute from BK?Theopliske8711 wrote:Do BK, bro.paglababa wrote:Now that I've done my research on NYU housing, I have just one question: Where will all the poors be living this fall?
I'm thinking LES or Alphabet City or something walk-able would be good if I can find it for 1200/mo.

Brooklyn. The Village is my favorite neighborhood in NYC, but I just can't justify the cost of the dorms, especially for what we're getting.paglababa wrote:Now that I've done my research on NYU housing, I have just one question: Where will all the poors be living this fall?

Wow, I would take that 55 minute commute in an instant. You can always study on the train. Not having to pay rent is like getting another $40k grant.paglababa wrote:I can have like a 55 min commute now Door to Door if I move in with my parents and live free at home. What kind of commute? I'm in a similar situation, but have decided to be on my own since 1L can be stressful and I'd rather not have to worry about making to class on time. I currently live around 40 mins from NYU, and my rent is around 670 + utilities (in BK). I have to move for CLS, however, since the commute becomes close to 1.5 hours.paglababa wrote:I can have like a 55 min commute now Door to Door if I move in with my parents and live free at home. All of this. I commute an hour for work; it's doable. I am about 40 min. from NYU as well. Looking forward to the reduced commute.Theopliske8711 wrote:What kind of commute? Keep in mind that 55 min door to door still means that you should be leaving as much as 1.5 hrs early. Reason being that the NYC subway system is pretty notorious for having slowdowns. When you are working, it's not a big deal, since you can just stay a bit extra to make-up for it. It's a different ball-game with class, however.

Re: NYU Class of 2017 - Old Photos in OP!
It's a subway commute, so not bad. Also, as others have mentioned, It would be so much more amazing to live close to campus for 1L and not worry about being late or sticking around for events. Imagine hanging out at NYU all day and then getting home like at 1 am from going out? Also, living with parents sounds even worse than getting a guest pass at the dorms lololMax324 wrote:Wow, I would take that 55 minute commute in an instant. You can always study on the train. Idk. I've commutted to ug for 4 years and the drive can take over an hour. Its very isolating and hard to be a part of the community. Im going to live in student housing and I'm aok with the extra debt that causes.

I think I would rather have to suffer daily rectal exams than live with my parents.

Idk, my commutes have been pretty consistent. Most of the delays I encounter are short "train is being held by the dispatcher" deals, those are pretty manageable. I guess it depends on the particulars. I live off of the 7; when I get to the Main St station I'm in Manhattan 30 minutes later reliably. If I miss a train, another one leaves a in a few minutes, and the line is two tracks in each direction, so even if a train stalls on the tracks ahead of us, I'm not going to be stranded on the tracks for an hour. On the other hand, trying to catch the G train at 3 AM = NIGHTMARESTheopliske8711 wrote:Keep in mind that 55 min door to door still means that you should be leaving as much as 1.5 hrs early. Anyone planning on biking? I think that's what I'm doing.

The L train is objectively awful.
I took the 7 for two years. It's awful. I hope to never ride it again. N/Q isn't bad, though the waits can be shitty.

Yeah, way too crowded during rush hour, no express, and when they shut it down for track work you get that joke of a shuttle.Theopliske8711 wrote:The L train is objectively awful.

Yeah, but all lines are during rush hour, 7 isn't unique in that regard.Theopliske8711 wrote:Between 7 and 9am and 5 to 7pm, it's completely full.Max324 wrote:Maybe I got in at the right time. They also run very close together during rush hour, which I appreciate.
