As a separate but related question (ie: the reason I want my account already): Does anybody have a copy of the SO's ASW agenda that they can PM me?

Somebody was kind enough to send me the standard one, but I'm trying to figure out how much time my SO needs to take off work/when to book flights, because she may want to pick and choose her activities.

I think it was around 5 days after the JS2 call that I received my email address.

And PM'd

Loved the weekend, leaning HLS now! Highlight had to be the what is justice question. I was in stitches. Great times.

I'm pretty sure the room set a world record for simultaneous eye rolls when that question was asked.

So is the agenda the same for all ASWs? (want to know if I can get in before noon on Saturday and be fine)

Need to book a flight out of Ohio and back so trying to get that done as earlier as possible.

Did anyone request reimbursements for ASW?

Thanks guys. Wish I could offer help rather than keep asking for it.

For those going to the April ASW, I'd love to know you before going there as well. Feel free to PM me.

Thoughts on thoughts on thoughts:

wtrc wrote:Post-ASW thoughts:

3) My main reservation going in was that people would be hard to connect with at HLS. I didn't go to a preftigious UG or grow up like that at all. This was almost entirely unfounded though... everyone was so normal and pretty great. Including/especially the TLS folks.
I generally agree with this. Everyone from TLS was great, almost all the others I met were too. But some of the admits I met positively radiated privilege. And at least one of the 2/3Ls I somewhat (see No. 5) talked to gave the impression that the class bubble at HLS can rival the LSAT bubble at TLS. If being the poor guy living in Gropius while classmates don't bat an eye at $1600+ rents is something you worry about, definitely seek out current students and get a feel for them (at the expense of meeting admits if you have to). You can't just ask "how many rich douchebags are there here" because you might be talking to one, but you can suss out some general advice by asking roundabout questions.
And on the other end of the spectrum the guy I sat next to at the professor lunch ate like three plates of food, cut his meat like a barbarian, drank three sodas and, I kid you not, told one of the professors as we were leaving that he was taking another. Eek. All I could think during that lunch was how people like me were judging my prandial behavior.

4) Obviously there will be gunners. But the gunners were pretty rare, at least this weekend.
Also if you gun, people WILL remember you for the rest of the weekend and then talk about you on TLS. I move we create a new TLS meme: Theory of Justice Gunner. I am open to cleverer ideas.
5) HLS did a really good job with the weekend. The only things I would change are the bars they rented out, since it would be way cheaper (=more drinks) and less crowded to do the same thing they did on Saturday night at HLS.
This. If you're hoping to meet a lot of people, plan to do this at places and times other than the bars. I did way too much of the awkward smile and nod because I had no idea what the girl who turned down Y was saying. Use your drink ticket and bounce to another bar (preferably not in Boston because I'm sure at least one person ate shit on the cobblestones).

Thoughts on wtrc's thoughts:
5) Yeah, spoiler alert, my own review is mainly just gonna be "the food was pretty good, but maybe you should have sprang for an open bar". This one bitch in our group just wouldn't stop complaining about the fact that both nights they sent us to off-campus bars with a single drink ticket that was only valid for beer or wine.*
Credited. If you're a tequila person, the ASW won't have much to offer you. BUT if you ask for two drinks at the reception/dinner/pub trivia they will give you two. So if, like me, you look at a host bar as a challenge then you're welcome. It was the downfall for this one lush in our group.* Also the piano bar was too much piano and not enough bar (that is to say, all piano and no bar).
6) I don't know how many people made it to "HLS: Will you be poor after this?", but I'm guessing that the amount is in the 3-5 person range. Alcohol + daylight savings + Sunday 9:30 AM.. I don't want to meet the kids who were responsible enough to make it.
There were more people at it than the negotiation thing right after it. But If you want to go to this, calibrate your night before. Ahem.
*That lush was me. Ugh he's the worst.

"Cooler in person" :?

Cogitationes mallei (if you're a classics major then make the tour stop in the library so you can read the Latin on the wall):
1. There was no cold calling in my mock class so unless you do the reading beforehand, don't worry about it. There are better things to do at the weekend than reading the case.
2. If you're thinking "who is this lady at the bar keeping me away from my free drink!" be careful, she might be JS. As a corollary, if you get a chance to talk to her, do it. She's as engaging and bright as everyone says. Corollary corollary, Elizabeth Warren randomly showed up. So at the faculty reception keep an eye out for rando senators.
3. If you're going to go into Boston for food Sunday night, a couple of thoughts. A lot of places will be closed, so don't go if you're starved and picky. Also if you're in a big group and at the back of that group, make sure the people setting the pace are not power walkers (you know who you were). Also make sure those people know where they're going. Walking around in the cold for an hour only to eat a food court is not cute. Even if it's, apparently, a famous food court. :D
4. If you're a candidate for any of the identity groups, make sure to check if they're having a reception or not. I wasn't invited to mine, and if you're interested in going it's better to find out ahead of time.
5. If you're wavering about going to the ASW, stop and go buy your tickets. It was a blasty blast.

Keeping this in mind for April ASW. I've lived in New York City for 5+ years and am basically only capable of powerwalking as fast as possible from location to location.

This is the advice I'm taking from the ASW recaps:

1) Bring a flask.
2) During Dean Minow's Q&A, definitely ask her what justice means. For your fellow TLSers, you will be seen as ironic and labeled a hipster. From everyone else you'll get eye rolls and be labeled a gunner. Then you will finally become that rare breed, the gunner hipster, despised by all mankind. Tangent here: Gunners are basically the hipsters of the law school world, right? We're all kind of gunners (hello, we got into HLS) but we just hate the people who are assholes about it (and we call them gunners) just like everyone who lives in Brooklyn is a hipster, but they reserve the term for people who are assholes about it.
3) If you get drunk enough on Saturday (see note 1), your crippling debt won't seem so bad, mostly because you missed the presentation.
4) If you meet someone this fall and think it might be specs, just ask yourself, Does this person wear glasses? Is he a giant? Is he not consuming alcohol? Does he have a gorgeous wife? If you answer yes to these questions, yes, it is specs.
5) Underground tunnels???? How was this not in our admissions packet? "Maybe you've heard Boston is cold. We at Harvard developed a solution: underground tunnels that ferry you from home (the library) to class and back again. Your 1L year at Harvard, you'll never see daylight, you'll never be cold."

If someone has the Colbert Cojones to re-ask "Justice" make sure that someone is recording it on their phone so you can post it here. Embrace the dark side and become the hipster/gunner legend you were meant to be.

Oh but the plot thickens! Now that it's been explicitly said on TLS, is it witty and ironic still, or just plain attention whore.

Not that I still wouldn't pay someone to do it just to see what happens...

I'm not going to lie, I love this. The ironic thing is that while I do wear glasses that is not what my handle refers to. Maybe I should have thought it through more thoroughly. :)

I still have not figured out who they are on TLS... reveal yourselves, 2 dudes in red shirts.

This is definitely how we should out ourselves. "So, my friend Scoobers told me this story...." Either that or we should get t-shirts with the duck on it.

You could always fake everyone out, "Dean Minow, what is justice..................................................... Kagan's frequency in visiting campus?"

Also, this whole "gunner" term. I never encountered this meaning for the word until I started looking at law schools. Is "gunner" a law school exclusive word or is it what all the cool kids are saying these days? From my understanding, it basically refers to socially inept egomaniacs who compulsively engage in annoying behaviors that are transparent attempts to impress others with their brilliance / achievements / work ethic. Yes? Or am I missing something?

Seriously, for the April ASW, someone should plan to ask a ridiculous gunnery question but post that question several times on TLS beforehand. It would be interesting to see the groan-gunner to yay-funny-TLSer ratio.

I'm going to ask what qualities we should develop — and how HLS will help me — for becoming a Supreme Court justice.
