Our group got either a P/P+, but no idea of median or distribution. Also we aren't sure if there were H's given, or if P+ was the highest grade available. So we got a "grade" but have no idea what it's worth.

Still no grades over here. Of course our Climenko is fairly cryptic. For instance the +/- hasn't been mentioned and they said they didn't discuss the curve when asked about whether or not we had them. Since everyone else does, I'm sure we do. But jeesh.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
So when's everyone starting exam prep (outlines and practice tests? Or have you already?
At this point I still basically only have time to read for the next day and haven't been able to work on summer internship apps or outlines/practice tests. Other people in my section seem to be working either faster or harder and are getting to do those extra things.

Several people have told me to get started on outlines in about a week but they don't need to be substantive outlines till after Thanksgiving.

I'm going to be one of those people who starts too late, then bitches about it and promises to do better next semester, which I wont.jingosaur wrote:Several people have told me to get started on outlines in about a week but they don't need to be substantive outlines till after Thanksgiving.
Thank me for padding the curve.

Somehow ended up with an h on closed memo. Almost a bummer, because now I feel like I'm gonna be putting in a ton more work to keep it up for the open. Hopefully not to the detriment of outlining actual courses...

P+ is the worst situation to be in. Can't decide whether to expend the time+effort in the vain hope of getting an H or do the minimal work necessary to get a P.
Are there H minuses though? I was under the impression that +/- thing was only for P's but I'm just talking outta my ass.

Depends on your section, but my understanding is that P+ means you're on track to an H.heythatslife wrote:P+ is the worst situation to be in. Can't decide whether to expend the time+effort in the vain hope of getting an H or do the minimal work necessary to get a P.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
There are definitely H- in some sections. Mine actually has "P+/H-" so there's that too. My section had zero straight Hs, so it's very much section-specific.heythatslife wrote:P+ is the worst situation to be in. H+/H++ Here
ETA: I am joking, or at least I think I am, I got nowhere near those grades if they exist.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
mine was P-/P/P+/H-, I got a P+. I'm putting minimal effort in since I'm pretty sure the H- people are most likely to get the Hs. I'd really have to kill it and don't want to sacrifice my other classes

I'd say that P+ people are very likely to get an H as long as the turn in a solid open memo.

Re: Harvard Class of 2017
Can anyone in here PM me? Trying to get an idea of my softs (I think they're average but have been told otherwise) and how they stack up to those admitted. I realized if I post them on the forums with the info I've already posted I'll definitely be outed. So thank you very much in advance!

A few PMs from random students comparing softs isn't going to give you any real insight.jw316 wrote:Can anyone in here PM me? Stop worrying about being outed. Unless you do something nasty on this board, it's not going to matter even if they figure out who you are.
Reviewing threads should give you a pretty good sense of softs.

Does P mean you're out of the running for an H? (if the fellow did give out P+ although the number is undisclosed)jingosaur wrote:Depends on your section, but my understanding is that P+ means you're on track to an H.heythatslife wrote:P+ is the worst situation to be in. was P+ the highest they gave? if so, probably notesther0123 wrote:Does P mean you're out of the running for an H? Either way, probably not. This thread has so much blind leading the blind.Fred012 wrote:was P+ the highest they gave? if so, probably notesther0123 wrote:Does P mean you're out of the running for an H? If you got a P- now and get an H on the next memo, you'll probably get an H in the class.
If you got a P now and get an H on the next memo, you'll probably get an H in the class.
If you got a P+ and get an H on the next memo, you'll almost certainly get an H in the class.
If you got a P+ now and get a P+ next time, you may even be able to pull out an H.
I know situations from last year where all of the above happened.
Do not assume that the curve they use now will be the curve they use on the next memo. Do not assume you can in any way quantify what these fuzzy letters mean.
At the end of the day, the Climenkos will decide what grade they want to give you. Their only real constraint is the number of each type of final grade they're allowed to give out each semester.
So, if you want the shot at an H, start writing.
If you're content with a P, enjoy a relaxing period before exams start.
But, stop trying to predict the unpredictable—it's just not healthy.

Are people making their own outlines? Or using good ones from past years and then going through and supplementing or changing around as necessary?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
