Merit scholarships at other schools.
For the moment, pretend that Yale and Stanford do not exist.
What level of merit aid at what other schools would reach the threshold of
1) making Harvard a difficult decision for you?
and/or
2) making you choose this other school over Harvard?
and for what reasons?
I'm leaning more and more towards not going to a lower ranked school with $$$ over HLS. I have pretty specific goals and the career path that I want to go on pays enough where I don't have that bad of a problem paying off the debt after financial aid is factored in. My parents are poors and my GPA isn't super high, so there won't be as big of a gap for me as there will be for others.
I also talked to an HLS alum with similar goals who chose HLS over a full ride at NYU and he said he doesn't regret it at all.
In the end, I think it really depends on the person and their goals.

I have no clue, but I'll bump for you anyway.

I'm not sure of the technically correct answer, but I wouldn't submit a seat deposit and then keep applying for other schools... Seems a little shady to me. No rush to submit the seat deposit, why not wait until the cycle is over?

Agreed. Besides, there's only a couple more weeks that other schools are even accepting applications, right? There's no rush to claim your seat if you're uncertain. It's not going anywhere.

I'm with Specs; there's no level of aid that would draw me away from Harvard.
And Mort, welcome! You'll need a new catchphrase for this thread

Maybe everyone else here has read this thread already, but...
Harvard Student(s) Answering Your Questions

...I've learned a lot perusing this tonight.
I don't use TLS much beyond this thread, so if anyone else has other recommendations, they'd be much appreciated!

I guess I'm checking in! I'd better hope that the plane I'm about to board doesn't have WiFi, because otherwise I'm going to stalk the hell out of HLS for the next 9 hours.

In case you guys haven't seen, we're having a drinks meetup this Saturday in NYC. It's 8:30 PM at Black & White.

I veto this plan, and demand that you go celebrate with friends
tonight (because how can you not?) and then come join us. Sorry, my word is final.

Not in town. I will be having drinks by myself at Heathrow on Saturday night, though, in solidarity. Chances of running into another HLS admit?

I'll be at Black and White by 8:30. You can call me at 646-708-4292 when you arrive if you don't want to walk up to random strangers and ask if they're going to Harvard.
I'll be the lanky, brown-haired, white guy picking up his phone and I'll be wearing a grey sweater with orange stripes.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
