Re: Duke Class of 2017
I haven't yet, but the more I consider it, the more certain I'm growing that I'll go with my dark horse of Hawthorne at the View. Between the lower rent ($629/$699 renovated vs. not renovated for their smaller 1BR and $649/$749 for the larger regardless of 9 or 12 month lease), similar amenities to others I would consider, and good reviews, it's fitting the bill for me. I still have to put in a bit of legwork (or more aptly, fingerwork), as I'm not sure what options are regarding washer/dryer and utilities, but if all goes well, I might sign a lease there fairly soon. My only worry is that I wasn't able to see any apartment models directly (I stopped in unscheduled Saturday after ASW, and since they had another appointment, I only saw the grounds, their model kitchen in the rental office, and prices), but given the reviews, I'm willing to swallow that small worry.lawschool22 wrote:So where is everyone as far as housing goes? You sure? (Google maps link here.)Serett wrote:I haven't yet, but the more I consider it, the more certain I'm growing that I'll go with my dark horse of Hawthorne at the View. Additionally, I either just discovered or rediscovered that it's only half a mile from Pinnacle Ridge (so close that Google Maps gave directions as walking rather than driving), so I'm not worried about being too isolated from everyone else. Anyone know if Pinnacle Ridge does 9 month leases? I really don't want to have to possibly deal with subletting.

Re: Duke Class of 2017
Ack, no idea how that happened lol. I used Google Maps, too, and could have sworn I was using the right addresses. I'll edit that out so as not to confuse anyone who reads it. Anyway, looks like it's back to a toss-up for me.SplitMyPants wrote:You sure? Edit: Saw the issue. ApartmentRatings.com lists the address without "Old" before Chapel Hill, which points to another road closer to Pinnacle Ridge.

I think I'm down to Garrett West and Pinnacle. I'll probably end up going w/ Pinnacle just because that seems to be where the "critical mass" of 1L's will be. But I will say I thought Garrett was a bit nicer.

Waiting for app to be approved at pinnacle ridge for me and another TLSer. Cheap, nice, and where all the 1Ls will be- so it was an easy choice. I already have an ikea shopping list going
Also Split- they do have 9 month leases but the cost per month will be higher

Curse this indecision. I think I'm edging back toward Garrett West. Edit: Extra discussion fodder, the food budget comes out to more than $500/month over the academic year

Lol. And Rent/Utilities are over $850/month. Everyone I've talked to says the Budget is really exaggerated.Serett wrote:Curse this indecision. I think I'm edging back toward Garrett West. Edit: Extra discussion fodder, the food budget comes out to more than $500/month over the academic year

For anyone considering pinnacle ridge but was unable to do the apartment tour like me, there's a useful tool on their floorplan pages to get a better feel for the bedroom dimensions.
Just click "launch our virtual move-in." It's not very obvious, so it took me a while to notice it. Therefore, I figured it was worth posting.

I'll be headed to durham next fall and hope to meet all of you there. Housing question: have any of you been able to find a lease beginning in august? I looked up pinnacle and trinity, but it seems as though nothing is available as of yet. Will most people wait til summer to sign a lease? I just want to make sure I don't end up having anywhere to live.

I was just looking at that to. Remember, though, that tenants aren't usually required to notify them about moving out until 60 days prior. Places to be leased in August will open up in May, I imagine.thywizardofwit wrote:I'll be headed to durham next fall and hope to meet all of you there. They need to get that video that auto-plays on every page under control though... "If WHERE you live is as important as HOW you live...."
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
