We heard rumors that they were dropping the class by another 30+ (ETA: eliminating two full 1L sections; this is a good thing for you guys, FYI), bringing it down closer to 300. Maybe that lost ~$3,000,000+ in revenue over the next tree years is why they're being so stingy with ya'll.

This was confirmed at OGI. Class of 2017 will be around 300. More schools need to do this in the declining legal industry. Plus, less students hopefully helps result in less unemployment.

Random question: What would you guys say are the necessary grades to land biglaw? Around median?

Probably depends on how big of biglaw you want, and your interview skills. Median is probably safe.

As for the declining class size news, THAT IS GREAT.

Probably around there if you count on most of the clerkships going into biglaw after finishing their term. If you don't count clerks, it's probably more around top 40%. This is only based off of talking to a couple alums, but the ask a student thread may have someone in there who knows something more exacting.

Absolutely. I wish I had 40 fewer smart, accomplished, UVA brand carrying people to compete with for a job in 4 months. Y'all are lucky.

Depends on the market. DC is pretty risky no matter where you are. Median and a bit below gives you a solid shot at NY. I'm still figuring out how much secondary/tertiary markets like us. Be sure to follow our UVA OGI thread when it pops up over the summer.

Still waiting on fin aid info from Columbia, but deposited today. I intend to request a deferral, though, so it's quite likely that I'll see y'all Fall 2015 :)

The fiancee and I just finished a 10-stop housing tour today, so I thought I'd post a few things for those of you looking for ideas on where to live. We didn't really want to live in Ivy Gardens or The Pavillion, so these recommendations aren't for any of you interested in those places. We wanted a 1 bedroom that was close but not too close to the law school, if that makes sense.

First thing, I'm a huge fan of the Charlottesville Craigslist map view. I combed this thing in the week prior to our visit and was able to find a bunch of places that were near the law school and that fit our specifications. This led us to:

-Barracks West Apartments: Good: Pet friendly, decent size for the price. They have this odd deal where you get $62.50 off the posted price if you apply 24 hours after you view a place. Bad: A bit of a hike from the law school. There is a city bus stop that is a 5-10 minutes walk from the apartments, but that won't take you directly to the law school.

-University Heights" (LinkRemoved) Good: 1 mile walk/bike ride to the school, shuttle to the law school that seems to have a pretty regular schedule all day long, nice interior, competitive pricing ($800-$850 for a 1 bedroom), pool. Bad: There are really some negative reviews for this place online, especially in regards to management. We went there expecting it to be kinda rough, but I think we'd be happy living here if we hadn't found something we liked even more.

-Cedars Court Apartments (no link here because they're not owned by one big company): Good: Close to the law school (looks like there's a running trail that you can cut through to come up by the parking lot below the JAG school), pretty quiet despite being near the highway, all four places we saw in here had modern interiors, of the efficiencies and 1 bedrooms we saw prices range from $700-$850. Bad: It can be kind of a pain to arrange showings of multiple units since they're owned individually or in small chunks, so we had to arrange individual appointments with each of the apartment owners.

-Places on University Circle seemed very expensive for what they have to offer and are not particularly close to the law school.

-We saw 3 places with Real Property Inc. They seemed to have a good amount of inventory in the area.

Hope this helps some of you out. Sorry that the information is a bit scattered. I just wanted to try and get some info out before all the details get messed up in my head. I really can't recommend the Craigslist map search enough. Feel free to PM with any questions.

went here for undergrad, a search of my uva email account's inbox for "real property" generates multiple email threads bitching about renting through RPI. those threads are a few years old now, but it still might be worth some extra examination of online reviews if you're strongly considering renting with them.

Just wondering how many TLS posters on this forum decided to not pay deposit & withdraw or pay duplicate deposits etc? Doesn't seem like many people have reported their decisions since deposit deadline yesterday? Good luck to all no matter where you end up.

Withdrew today. Really tough to do because UVA's a great school and I would have liked it there, but I couldn't justify it. Good luck to everyone else with their cycles, and to those that end up at UVA, have a great time!

I also recently withdrew. It was one of the hardest withdrawal emails that I sent because I truly did love UVA. I hope my scholarship money can now go to someone else on TLS though!

A bit late, but checking out. That Dillard was really, really hard to let go of - but hopefully the freed up funds help a couple of those negotiating! Wahoowa!

 I consider this a mandate.

Unrelated and random: I've been meaning to ask you how you got up in that hot air balloon bro. Because that would be an excellent date for Lady North when she comes to visit next fall. The pictures you poasted were downright breathtaking.

Ahh man I don't mean to let you down but that was just a google image I found online. The pictures are from Charlottesville though. Have you never seen the hot air balloons flying around? You should take Lady North I feel like that would be awesome. Just keep in mind you may be strictly liable for landing in somebody's crops.
