meegee wrote:Does anyone know the exact specific deadline for filing FASFA and Need Access? The website has a "Suggested filing date" but my parents file a foreign tax return whose dates do not coincide with American tax returns. To be more specific, the foreign tax return date is after April, I believe it starts in the beginning of May.

Thus, I was wondering what are the exact deadlines for FASFA and Need Access?

Here's some info I've gotten for me/others to see:
This is what Need Access says on their website:
"Deadlines for completing your Need Access Application are set by your school. Applications can be submitted to Need Access until June 30th (the end of the academic year). For example, if you are applying for financial aid to cover the 2014–2015 academic year, your application can be submitted to Need Access until June 30, 2015. "

That's a very generous timeline.

This is what FASFA says on their website:
Federal Deadline - "Online applications must be submitted by midnight Central Time, June 30, 2015.
Any corrections or updates must be submitted by midnight Central Time, September 19, 2015."
Followed with: "Check with the college(s) you are interested in attending. You may also want to ask your college about its definition of an application deadline - whether it is the date the college receives your FAFSA, or the date your FAFSA is processed."
This doesn't answer your question but might help. You can use info from the last available tax return (2012) for now and then update with new information as soon as you get it. Just make a note about it when you submit. Also, you can submit Need Access multiple times for free so just update with new information and resubmit later on.

I'm going to go ahead and HEARTILY RECOMMEND Ace Biscuit & Barbecue to y'all for ASW eating. My SO and I went there during my ASW. It's fantastic, especially if you like holes-in-the-wall sort of places like I do. Get the Brisket Biscuit. Alternatively, take your time looking at the menu before you order (The tiny size of the dining area will make you feel like you should hurry up. Don't.). It's my favorite place in C-ville, and there's lots of good food in C-ville. FYI they close around 3:00.

I ate there when I visited, it is pretty amazing.

Also you should eat at Citizen burger, it is great.

Have any of you eaten at Michie tavern? My realtor told me it has the best fried chicken but I did not get the chance to go there.
It seems kind of like a tourist place though so I am a little skeptical about food quality there.

One current student told me a group would be watching at Boylan Heights.

Ya know, I was pretty impressed with that open house yesterday. I came here on the fence, but now I'm definitely leaning towards UVA.

I thought they did an excellent job selling the culture and how it helps in the job market and the alumni network. in my student panel, someone asked the students if they had an account on tls and the current students were all like it's poisonous and it's junk. hahah

I can't believe somebody asked that. Lol.

Was definitely impressed (and expected to be) by the Open House. One thing that I particularly found useful was how a lot of the current students echoed the sentiment that professors and staff really are dedicated to the students. The girl leading my tour of the law school even commented on how, during her summer internship between 1L and 2L, she was writing a memo that was due in an hour that her supervisor would brief in 2 hours (or something like that); she was utterly lost but contacted the librarians who helped her find relevant cases in the nick of time. The fact that she could do that over the summer, at the last minute, and receive immediate and extensive help was pretty cool.

Also, for what it's worth, and because I'm a foodie, I thought they had good vegetarian options for most of the food (except maybe the BBQ...making my late lunch out of mac & cheese, broccoli salad, and a sweet potato biscuit was yummy, but not especially filling. I was starving by the middle of the Monticello tour). But that spinach and artichoke bread pudding for breakfast yesterday was divine.

I was the guy in that room struggling to contain his laughter. I'd also bet at least 1-2 of them had accounts. Especially the person that said "even if someone did, they'd never admit it"

Would UVA be more open to negotiation with a retake and improvement in June? 200k debt with the offer at present is a no-go. 3.9 and 168 if it matters. I retook the 168 once and scored mid-160s.

Went to the UVA open house and had a swell old time. However, I am a little concerned about the fratty conservative atmosphere, and how much it seems to dominate the social scene. Can anyone speak to this? If I'm being totally honest here (and with myself), I guess am basically looking for reassurance that I won't be the lone liberal wolf, before I officially accept... :D

I don't consider myself conservative, and I did not find the UVA environment to be particularly unwelcoming - especially compared to what I was expecting. From what I experienced I feel like everyone says UVA is fratty when what it really means is that they are a fan of drinking and vineyard vines. I think that although that might be the dominating prescene there, they still don't particularly object to different personality types...which I find to be more important. As long as I don't feel ostracized I'm good.

I'm liberal and didn't find it overwhelmingly conservative, although it did seem kind of "fratty." I really liked all of the students I met. However, I did think the student body was much less diverse than the other schools I've visited.
