Grey Day was pretty chill. I'm more nervous waiting for grades than the LSAT, for whatever reason.

I think we usually perceive the MPR as being more decisive than the LSAT score, and with the LSAT there is of course the opportunity to retake it.

Any idea how GPA corresponds to class rank percentile?

They have posted the historical top 5% and 10% on the exam grading page, and the usual average that professors are supposed to grade classes. I believe there is a class rank estimator somewhere on this site, too.

Still waiting for them to post the updated version of this: https://support.law.cornell.edu/student ... r_2014.pdf

Do you expect much deviation? It seems over the course of 3 years it has stayed relatively consistent, even with the change from a hardline mean to a acceptable variation mean.

In the top 5 and 10%, there shouldn't be much deviation. However, the top 30% does swing a bit more than the others iirc. I made a post on this forum once with the top 30% cutoffs but I can't find it. If you are curious you can ask registrar soon.

The registrar will tell you the exact 5% 10% 30% cut-offs after only one semester?

Paging lavitz to back me up, but yes. I do remember going and asking for the 30% (since that's what matters right now - Dean's List for Fall).

And my memory is telling me top 30% in the Fall was a 3.56 (yes, low... that's why i said it swings.)

Deans list was 3.56? Someone told me it was around a 3.66? Does anyone know what median would be then? And does any higher distinction other than Deans list show up on your transcript? Also, how can you figure out what the bottom percentiles are? (top 10%/5%)

SO MANY 1L QUESTIONS

It never ends. I thought I'd have relief when I finally had my grades back and instead it just opened a whole new door of questions and concerns.

In the fall, pretty sure Dean's list was a 3.56. I am like 75%.

Like I said, it does fluctuate from year to year. I think the year before us was around a 3.68 or something so ours dropped a lot. Median I believe was like a 3.48 or so...

No higher distinctions show up - that's why it doesn't matter for first semester which % exactly.

if you have any questions you don't want to post here, either myself or lavitz (prob) would take PMs about it. If they are "how will I fare at OCI questions" I won't take them bc 1) I didn't do OCI at Cornell and 2) I don't think you should be worrying about that too much yet.

Generally the most important thing for OCI is interviewing skills (Are you normal?) and *probably* being above median.

Toothbrush is right. I distinctly remember him telling me over the summer that he asked the registrar and they told him top 30% was either 3.56 or 3.58. Can't remember exactly which. And I remember thinking that was low because I also once heard that it used to be above 3.6.

Median will probably be somewhere between 3.4 and 3.5 like toothbrush suggested with the 3.48. I don't remember hearing an exact number for that last year.

Interviewing > grades. Also agree that interviewing will matter more than grades. High grades will help and low grades may hurt, but distinctions like 3.59 without dean's list vs. 3.61 with dean's list probably won't make a difference.

Willing to take PMs on anything.

Yes it changes from year to year. It was 3.61 after our first semester.

Also willing to take PMs if anyone wants a 3L (or just generally another) perspective.

iirc you have to request a transcript and it shows up on that as a designation on the bottom.

Can I request an unofficial transcript or does it have to be an official one?

1) you always request unofficial

2) I don't think it will show up yet. They will mail out letters. Around that time, if you request a new transcript, it will appear. I don't remember if there was another way to tell.

It'll be like for or five days at least before the dean's list asterisk will appear on your unofficial transcript.

As 2Ls, did you guys find second semester of 1L easier or harder? My theory is that most people in general work harder and now have an understanding of what's going on/how to take tests/what worked and what didn't...etc. Do you think that's the case?

idk. I felt like I put the same amount of effort into classes, and got virtually the same gpa. I put extra work into moot court and clubs though, so I think that made the semester as a whole seem harder.
