I noticed that the total of all of the expenses that they list is more than the $79800 total CoA listed by almost $5k (total of all of the expenses is about $84k). Has anybody spoken to the Financial Aid office about this or know what the discrepancy is?
The living allowance is for 9 months. The numbers are right.

Seems like books, insurance, and travel are missing from the total budget?

Tuition = 53,130
Rent = 1365*9 = 12,285
Utilities = 180*9 = 1,620
Food = 380*9 = 3,420
Misc = 315*9 = 2,835
Local = 235*9 = 2,115
Books = 1,200
Long Distance = 770
Health = 2,425

Total = 53130+12285+1620+3420+2835+2115+1200+770+2425 = 79800

This appears to be correct. If you take all of the /month living expenses (rent, utility, food, misc, & transportation) it adds up to $2475/month total. Add that together over 9 months and its $22,275. Use that number for the living allowance instead of the number given and the CoA total comes out right.

Still, thats a shitty way to give the information. Why list the total living expenses for a whole year, but then only use 9 months worth when calculating the total cost?

To be fair, they do label it as the "Academic Year."

You're right. I think the confusion was that the living expenses total amount has the three other line items below it which are formatted as if they should be added instead of being inclusive (like the ones in parenthesis)

BmoreOrLess wrote:Yea, it's probably all going to depend on how selective GULC is with transfers. If it's all dudes that are something like top 5% at Maryland/GW/W&M type schools, I think it will be a pretty big concern because they're going to be more attractive to firms than a slightly above median GULC bro (and probably a top 1/3 bro). But if they're taking top 25% from American/Catholic/University of Baltimore type places, I don't think it's as big of a concern.

Just based on the sheer numbers of transfers each year, you have to imagine they aren't too selective. At least a healthy chunk is probably from the later group.
Just my 2 cents, but those transfer students are not really the folks that you are truly competing against. Their grades start all over and law firms give very little heed to those grades. All my 2L and 3L transfer friends had to work their asses off for consideration with firms, and I don't know of a single person who had as smooth a time of it as someone in the top third. In all honest, myself, and my friends, aren't really considering them at all.

I thought transfers GPAs start over at their new school? Could be wrong/hope I'm right
They do, but firms at EIW will be looking at their grades from their 1L school.
Makes complete sense and is pretty scary that there will be 100 people coming in with near straight A's. But aren't transfers at somewhat of a disadvantage? It would seem not, but I see a good amount of people on TLS telling others not to transfer because they'll have a hard time at EIW.
EIW, from what I've heard, is of very little use to transfer students. All about mass mailing and networking for them. Also, little above median will certainly give you a shot at biglaw. I'm not going to post stats on here, but there are definitely firms out there that hire plenty of students at median. It's not all rosy by any means, but if you're not inept at human interaction, can tell some interesting and/or humorous stories, and/or have some background work experience, you've got a good shot.

Section 2 here! Can anyone speak to how the LRW course works? I'm looking at my section 2 sched and it seems at first glance that we spend over 4 hours in just LRW on Mondays and Wednesdays, but it's worth way fewer credits that every other class. Am I just showing my ignorance here/missing something? :|

Think those are separate classes within our section. Seems like it's 55 mins twice per week.

It looks like LRW meets in smaller "mini-sections". Each of the mini-sections meets for only 1 hour of those 3 hour blocks.

The admitted students page says at orientation :( . Anyone know if we can figure out what books we need for the classes where we know who our professor is?

That might be partially directed at me.
I am a little bit older, so i didn't grow up carrying on message board conversations with people I've never met.

But........ i am very glad its here, so I can find out when new information is available.

So, yes I am a proud lurker.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
